Epson Printer woe

Hi folks... bit of a printer problem.

A mate of mine is having a problem with an Epson Stylus Color 640 printer, and I said I'd look into it for him. I have it here on my own PC, downloaded the drivers etc. What is happening is, when you power it on, the Black Ink light is constantly on, which should denote that it is out of black ink. I got a new cartridge, and it doesnt recognise it, the light is still on. Trying to print to it says that its not there on LPT1, an Epson monitor program doesnt see it. Doesnt seem to like me cleaning the print heads either.

Any ideas what could be wrong? It would be a great help.

Also, if it needs a printer pro to repair it, where in Dublin can do this, at not too expensive a cost?

Did you ever get this problem resolved?

I have an Epson 750 with similar problems - did you have to leave it in somewhere to be fixed?

you could try this free software

it resets the counters and stuff for ink.
Is the light that is comming on a flashing light or constant?

i had a website that had all the epson service stuff on it like what the different lights mean and how to fix them. am searchin and will post when i find it.
