*New!* Battle of the Bands - Sunday Nights - Da2

Have you heard?? All you gotta do is get your band together, book a gig upstairs in Da2 any Sunday night and you get to partake in a thrilling harum scarum battle of the bands - your band -v- King Sativa. He who is loudest wins. Only they're downstairs playing their own gig while your upstairs with your paying punters trying to pull off a quiet lovesong or two. Some advice though - it's best for everyone if you try and work the rhythm of your songs around Derek's basslines. That way it's less traumatic on the audience's musical ear.

No but seriously, it's absolutely crazy. Last night three lads, Ross Breen, Tadhg Cooke and Fiach, played in Da2, three lads, three guitars, nothing else. But any atmosphere they managed to create was continually destoyed by the sound of King Sativa from below. A lot of the time you could hear the lads downstairs more clearly than the guy on the stage in front of you. They didn't complain, and instead just laughed it off, but frankly, I'd be very annoyed and I wouldn't have blamed them if they'd turned green and burst out of their shirts. .

I know people from Da2 post here so can someone explain the genuis behind this??

When you were soundproofing the place, could you not have spent a bit of time on internal soundproofing? It appears to me to show a severe lack of foresight.

I'd be very reluctant to return to Da2 on a Sunday night. Sometimes two for the price of one isn't a good idea

I almost feel sorry for the guys who did up the place.
It looks really good. Right down to the projector in the back
corner of the room. It wouldn't be that hard to fix though
I would imagine. Just put sand under the floorboards...
apparantly that does the trick. Alternatively use heavy
carpets... well they're hardly going to lay carpets in Da2...
so we're back to the sand.

Old cardboard egg cartons do the trick, and you can pick em up free! They should shove them between the floor boards.

So when are they going to realise that's complete madness and do something about it?

Y'know I can see something like this popping up on Judge Judy some day.

    hey mick
yeah I'd have to say that was pretty sound alright.
I'm looking forward to the next one.
By the way, best of luck with the court case.
Break a leg... or whatever they say in court cases...
they never say anything do they?
Where's a catchphrase when you need one?
It's a decent venue and accessible to the smaller
bands which is always good. And as has been
just proven the guys who run it are sound fellas.

    me going red man...cheers mick

Listen I didn't mean to make anyone go red! I was just afraid that it was going to be a recurring thing and I didn't think it was fair on the musicians (upstairs that is) or the people who paid in.

But, it seems that it was a freak occurance and I believe it won't happen again.

Sorry if I was a bit harsh. And good luck with everything.

    All the best
