The AA chappie Conor Faughnan (sic)
said the same thing on radio, he gave an example of buying a Laguna for 19k and runing it for 10 years, you'll pay 21k in various taxes! If they can't find the money for end-of-life disposal out of that....!

    Mike.

It is worth considering that the regulations on the disposal of cars are also being tightened up considerably in the next few years, and it's set to become far mroe expensive to dispose of a car.

Though why the government is charging an extra levy baffles me a little in light of the fact that this European directive also shifts the responsibility of scrapping the car to the manufacturers within the next 10 years (can't remember the exact details).

it's just another excuse for our amazing government to screw the countries motorists. Now we'll have VAT, VRT, Road Tax, Toll Roads, Tax on petrol, Insurance levy on overly priced insurance and now this €150 levy. It's hard to believe they can get away with it. I'd love to go around the country and give everyone who voted for these muppets a slap for subjecting us to more bullsh1te from these assholes.

Don't forget window tax - it's about the only thing left that they haven't tried.

Maybe I'm wrong, but don't you actually get your money's worth out of this as it is offset against the price of scrapping at the end?

And the cost of recycling oil, metals including heavy metals, glass, rubber, plastics and the like are not prorperly represented at the moment.
