Mad idea - getting a UK sub?

This is just an idea I have, and would like to know if it is possible or not...

Would it be difficult to activate a UK subscription from Ireland onto a non-subsidised digibox which was bought brand new in the UK? Having a UK address where the new viewing card can be posted to is not a problem.

    - I guess phoning Sky from Ireland is not a big problem, as long as you prefix the number with 141 before calling so as to hide your caller ID.

    - Would they care if the monthly subscription is paid for using an Irish credit card?

    - Do they first post out a contract, which you then have to fill out, sign and post back? Or can it all be done over the phone?

Anybody know if this would be possible - or is it all just a bit too mad?

They will need to send you a contract to sign. I dont know about the credit card though as it will be registered to your address as would your DD details. Very good question. I believe it has been achieved before though. I vaguely remember someone on boards having done this successfully..

I have a UK sub here in Dublin so you should have no problems.
    Some Pointers ....

An Irish cc will do just fine.

Make sure the contract you send is a UK version and make sure it is posted from within the UK. (I picked up my blank contract from Dixons in Belfast)

When you get your card, tell them that it is an out-of-contract digibox and that it not practical to connect to a phone line. This will allow you to ask for a manual activation.

(Att Mod - Should the above be in the FAQ ?)

Hmm - so you still need a UK address for the card to be posted to then..

yes Sky will not send a card for a UK subscription outside of the UK. the same applies for a Republic of Ireland subscription outside of the Republic of Ireland
