The Mikadoo - Is it a biscuit?

Everyone loves the mikadoo, its one of those great irish traditions like rainy summers and getting drunk and hitting people.

But I ask should it be called a biscuit?
There is more non biscuit matter in one than the actual biscuit itself.

Non-biscuit matter is not that un-common, all one has to do is look at the fig roll, the chocolate kimberly or the fox'es classic cream. Each a fine companion with a cup of tea but the ratio of biscuit to non-biscuit matter is nothing in comparison to the mikadoo.

So i pose this question should it be alloed to carry the name biscuit? I propose a more fitting and descriptive name, The Mallow Jam and Coconut Shaving Open Top Sandwitch.

I would still call it a biscuit. The non-biscuit parts don't change it in my opinion :)

i dunno, even the 'biscuit' part is really soft and cake like ...uhh almost ...so it has hardly any claim to being a biscuit, i just want to express my deep love for them

    mmm mikado :)

    Very good thread indeed.

the Mikado is a quirk of life, the comma of life is contained within its pink fluffy cloud-like mallowness. When one bites into it do they think "mmm crunchy" or "mmmm fluffy"? I would say more fluff than crunch so I would say that it's a mallow with a biscuit topandbottoming (as opposed to topping). So I think we would have to create a new genus for the Mikado - yes:

I go with your original sentiment of Mallow Jam and Coconut Shaving Open Top Sandwich. Either that or my own creation - "Harsh Mallow"

tell you all to get a life. But I have to correct Gordon - (I think) You're thinkin of the Kimberleys (white mallow sandwiched in two ginger circles).

The Mikados are those biscuits with the pink mallow split by a line of jam.

    Nuff said.

    It is what it's.

Just as a matter of interest, how did you find this 6-month old thread and why did you reopen it with an unrelated post?
I presume it was a mistake of some sort, I'm just curious to know how it came about.

I hate to spoil this wonderful thread by actually answering the question but..

A biscuit , when it get stale , goes soft wheras when a cake goes stale it goes hard.

So from that figure it out. ( as for marshmallows etc , isnt a chocolate digestive still a Biscuit?)

Reading posts about mikado being clit/fanny biscuits, reminds me of the scene with Ali G in his movie, when he gets that cream eclair at the party. And for gods sake its a biscuit people, plain and simple and definately not a cake!
