Exellent result which did'nt reflect the game but rather that the winning side has to take its chances, which the Irish certainly did. The defense was massive, as the Scots were pushed left then right as they difted backwards...

The game against Italy may be tougher than many expect, they've just won only thier second 6 nations game and have some quality players esp at the back + Dominguez.

    Mike.

The defence today was superb and Mike Ford deserves all the plaudits he will undoubtedly receive. Everyone tackled well even Humphries who had one of his best games in the green jersey. I'd probably still go for a completely fit O'Gara due to his consistency but if there are any doubts have him on the bench and leave Humphries put.

Thought the pack, and particularily the front row, had a great game. The set pieces were very good (very satisfying to steal line out off some of the best poachers in the world) and the play in the loose, both attack and defence, was excellent.

Then there was O'Driscoll. OK it was only Laney but he had an great game, even by his standard. Pity he didn't get a score.

We can't take Italy for granted though, even if the Welsh did leave it wide open for them they are still a capable side. After that though who knows :-)

the match against italy shouldn't be that hard

yes they beat wales but that's the worst welsh team in decades and a team i expect ireland to humiliate at their own home ground.

Italy should be no harder than Scotland away which was after all a very convincing 30point win

the only real question IMO is if we can beat england and france(both at home)

Italy played some pretty decent rugby against Wales by all accounts (I didn't see the match myself); the fact that they came out against the weakest team in the six nations in their first game is no reason to underestimate them.

That said, if Ireland play like they played against Scotland they should pull a win out of it regardless - but, er, less of the heart-in-the-mouth moments in the first few minutes, eh lads? :)

I can't see Italy winning the tournament outright. It's between Ireland and England this year; although England were disappointing against France, I'm not sure that's any kind of reflection of how strong their team really is. Still, on the basis of the two performances today, if both teams played the same rugby, Ireland would beat England - and that, for my money, will be the deciding match of the tournament.

Assuming of course that the boys in green don't mess it all up now after a great start. Still - with a combination of genuine belief and possibly misguided pride - Ireland for this years six nations :)

France played very badly against England but they have always been the team that can change it around at any stage. Even against England they had a (slim) chance to grab it at the end of the match. If they had brought a kicker or put Casteigneide (sp?) on earlier might have been a different result. Don't right them off just yet

That was a good display by Ireland and for a lot of the game they showed Scotland too much respect. They could have and should have racked up the points.
They should win against Italy who looked good against Wales which wasn't hard to do.
The England France match was interesting. France was going nowhere until Castaignede came on and changed their attach formation. And they nearly did it but for a crap kicker.
All this will make the Ireland England game interesting. Similar defence will make it a kicking game - and that's one that England will win. With Wilkinson left boot England are nearly unstoppable.

I thought Ireland were outstandidng, however, Soctland are a boring defensive team with crap backs, so, Ireland need to be ready for the French!
Can anyone recommend any websites/outlets for tickets?

Remember, France beat Aussie, New Zealand and Safa's too. They have a very good team. England still won kinda handy, its not like they scraped thru..

Italy are still too reliant on Domingez, who is getting on a bit. If we dont give them penalties and the pack play the same as they did yesterday we should not have any problems at all! For once we were not the ones getting tired in the last quater, its the other teams doing that!

Im a teeny weenie bit worried about England, it will be game we win or get murdered in. They do look very good, I know they would not have fcuked up that massive overlap scotland messed up :)

Our Scrum looked awsome tho, and we were first to all the breakdowns. GOD (BOD) was amazing, making space out of nothing...

We really have a lot to look foward to down under in the World Cup at the end of the year!

Ireland V's Italy is a no contest.

Wales are terrible this year, I was not at all surprised when I heard they lost. Italy are slowly starting to build some sort of foundation to being a decent rugby nation but they will not have the invention in attack to worry Irelands very solid looking defence.

I think England will win this year although I'd love to see them turned over in Dublin.

France were very very poor against England they looked very passive in defence. Even still they are my bet for the World Cup.

Irish defence was what won it for us at the weekend. Scotland had alot of trouble finding answers to it and when they did they threw the ball into touch. :p I thought that Keith Gleeson should have gotten man of the match. He was everywhere on Sunday, making tackles slowing down ruck ball it was a great performance.

Thought the England France game was a bit of a let down myself. Both teams looked very uncertain and nothing like their Autumn form. If form stays the same (and I don't think it will) Ireland will have a very good chance of beating them at home.

I'd also wonder whether the key players are goin to be able to stand up to the upcoming schedule. You have to figure that people are going to be trying to disrupt, for example, Wilkinson and O'Driscoll and the recovery time between games is not there any more. One concussion could take a player out for several games which may well be a factor in the end of the day
