Replacing a lost passport - how long does it take?

    I'm off to Thailand on the 27th,and I sent my passport off for a visa.It should have been back to me in the last few days (it has been sent by registered post).Now it may very well still arrive,but I'm beginning to get a bit worried.If it is lost,how long would it take to get a new one?If I went in to the office in the middle of next week with my tickets and lost password form etc,would I be able to get one issued quickly?Thanks!

    you can get a new passport in a day if you are prepared to wait (and wait and wait and ....)


    the problem would be getting a replacement visa

    The visa was just for convenience really,I'll be able to go without it but will have to cross a border within 30 days (I can then go straight back into Thailand for another 30 etc).

    Good to know I'll be able to get a passport at short notice,if it comes to that.Thanks!
