Has anyone managed to land any biggies up Monaghan/Carrick area yet. Don`t want to know venues, just to know if they`re "on"?

    talking about Tench..
I'm from Wexford and I hear the South Slobs in Wexford have a lot of Tench (possibly specimen+) in the drainage canals (as well as perch rudd etc)
(The slobs in Wexford are land reclaimed from Wexford Harbour in the middle of the 19th Century)
The other rumour I hear is that it has been stocked with carp in the last few years..

I have found it difficult to get any hard information but I have heard a rumour it is planned to develop the fisheries (which is on high quality farmland- probably may lead to access problems etc) as a private permit fishery
Has anybody else heard anything about it??/

Nice one JD, I will ask around. News to me but worth checking out. I`ve heard of carp being stocked in brackish type water below Wicklow or is it Arklow town. A spot just in from the sea. Daft but the fisheries apparently did it. Seems they can`t breed.

JD, do you fish for specimen fish?

to be honest,it's only in the last year or so I've started getting back into fishing more often..
As far as specimen hunting, at the moment I'm happy to be back fishing
Qualitively speaking (with regard to the particular environment) my best catch would be a 2lb trout I caught in a stream in Wexford-it flows into Ferrycarrig in Wexford
and is called Carrig-normal size of trout was about half a pound..
Unfortunately since the built the ring road around wexford water quality and average waterflow decreased..
may have a look again so

I did *see* a massive perch (5lb plus) in a spot in Wexford, though fishing is, and will remain, prohibited there.(did fish there as a kid, caught perch to about 2 and a half pounds, plus buckets of rudd)

Back to fishing myself about 4 years after about an 18 year break (growing up). Tricky to get time off to get out.
By the way, the Irish record perch is about 5.5lbs, Lough Gowna.
Can you leg it over the fence and throw a spinner at it?
I knew you could catch trout?

it would be long dead now or about 15lbs if that were possible- followed a small rudd I had caught in..
