Setanta Sports and why WE can't subscribe to it...

Setanta Sports hold the live rights to GAA and Irish Soccer internationals in GB and Europe. All very well, you may say, however it is not possible to subscribe to Setanta as a private individual.

Setanta will only allow pubs or clubs to subscribe to the service and do not entertain any applications from private individuals.

I phoned Setanta today to ask if they would go onto Sky and the person concerned said no, they hadn't thought of it and no, nobody else had asked about it...

If you would like to phone Setanta about this, their number is +44(0)20 7930 8926.

Where does this leave the Irish sports fan who wants to watch these games at home? The usual answer is to wait for the highlights on Tara or to listen to RTE Radio 1.

Shouldn't RTE, the GAA and the FAI re-think their position on UK and European rights and sell the rights to Tara or even Sky to allow Joe Public to watch the games live?

Or will we have to resort to pirating an RTE signal if RTE ever go on DSAT?

    Richard
