Signal Strength & Quality

Maybe one of the Sky Digital installers (Tony??) on the forum can help with the following questions:

My signal strength is only about 60%, and quality is about 90%. Would it make a significant difference to my reception if the strength was increased to about 90%? Most channels look okay, but I'd still like to know. What do installers look to achieve, typically?

I have a Philips 28" widescreen TV, which offers both surround sound and stereo sound. Occasionally, during programmes, the sound seems to flicker from surround to stereo and back of its own accord, and this this very annoying, and the sound disappears (albeit for a fraction of a second) during the transition. Is this a satellite or TV problem? Has anyone else experienced this?

    Any inputs welcome!

Hi, If your Quality is 90% I dont think you have anything to worry about , perhaps you have a long cable run or perhaps the cable is a little losssy. have a look at the cable and see if you can see the type imprinted on it, if its RG6 you may benefit by upgrading to CT100 cable. As for your tv problem its difficult to know without looking at the equipment.

    i hope this helps

I agree with Tony. As long as your Quality is good. This seems to be the most relevant one. Some systems tell you you have 60% Strength even with no cable connected! Also from experience, as Tony stated, single core cable can be very lossy. I have tried using it few times but the strength bar dropped dramatically. In one instance, The Strength was 0% but Quality was 80% and the channels worked fine but we changed cable anyway to double screen to be on safe side and voila, Strength 60%, Quality 90% (was a long drop). <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src="../www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif" ALT=":D" OLDREF="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->
