Seems Mr Firman has an Irish passport so that sounds under Mr Ecclestones rules as if he races as an Irishman :)

While in British F3 he raced against Juan Pablo and beat him. Also, the Formula1 Nippon is where mr Irvine cut his teeth so it looks as if Firman's pedigree is good.

He's also 27 and has a lot of experience. Hopefully his experience has left him with a cool and calculating head for racing. Too many of the younger drivers in F1 of late havn't performed well under the pressure.

Jordan are due a good season and hopefully it will be this year.

    Nail on the head Leeroy!

I think his experience of taking a few years to win the FOrmula Nippon series proves he has the ability to put togther good performances and learn from his mistakes.

Too many young guns are flash in the p-an guys who have not had to build performance over a season or tow. Sounds as if Firman is a quick but settled head.

Far as I remember, its not what passport he holds, it's what country issued his competition license...

    Robbo,

I thought that too till the controversy surrounding Eddie Irvine wanting to race under a non-country flag. He was told that even though he raced under an Irish Super licensne, he was a British citizen so he had to have the union jack and "god save ER in doors"

Firman has dual citizenship but an Irish passport. So I that should mean he gets the tricolour and Abhrainn.

Why is Firman suddenly Irish? He's got an Irish mum so what, to quote someone, "just cos you're born in a stable it does'nt make you a horse!"

I bet the Union Flag is what goes up on the screen he gets on the podium,
not that is very likely this year...

PS is anyone else slighly annoyed that yet again EJ has gone with a rookie rather than someone with a few F1 miles under his belt?

    Mike.

he went with jean alesi once, didn't turn out well.

He went with Hill once. Nothin special there either.

EJ has shown a great talent for spotting people suitable for f1(sato was a money thing)

Have to agree here. In Fisi he has one of the best rated, though slightly under performing talents in F1. As such, he is hedgin his bets well with Firman. The approach of an old hand and a young charger is a good way of getting new talent in without taking too many chances, and as was pointed out, EJ has a nose for young talent.

As well as that, Firman seems far less of an unknown quantity than was Mass or Button at the same time. He has a lot of experience in the series that are the recognised steps up to F1.

That being said, so did Sato and bugger all good it did him.

I hate waiting and seeing :)

What season has he not had a rookie in a car?
Jordan is THE team which gives rookies a break and initally this was because of their poor financial postition but has lately been for other reasons.

Although i agree with you in the most part, Hilll did give them their first victory but not much more.
Sato was certainly not a money thing. Sato was a "sweetner" for Honda in the hope Honda would give Jordan an exclusive works deal in 2003 which obviously backfired and was costly.

In fairness, the 99 season where he started with Hill and Frentzen, neither could be called rookies. Same again for the 2000 season with Frenzten and Trulli, neither being rookies.

In other words, a money thing :P

    exclusive works deal= (indirectly) money
