What are you doing in these sessions?

How much time do you have?

    Do you train alone?

What do you have access to?

Ok when I go swimming I usually swim between 30-40 25M lengths of the pool using breast stroke

In THe GYm I jog for 15 minutes 12-14 kph clocking up 2.5 Kms

    Cycle for 5 miles @ 65RPM

Do a small bit of weights and maybe 5 mins on the rowing machine

I have a injured knee from a sports accident and knee can get weak easily

I lost a stone in 2 weeks. I just had to get glandular fever and stay out of work for 6 weeks afterwards.

2 weeks quick enough for you ? There may be side effects such as not being able to sleep for those 2 weeks and going through agony 24/7.

Theres no QUICK solution to lose 2 stone unless you are living a very bad lifestyle.

Going to the gym once a week really isn't going to make a lot of difference. You should be going at least 3 times.

I do 15 mins running, 15 mins cycling, 10 mins rowing and two circuits of 5 weight machines, 15 reps each. And i'm just starting out!

Also, what are you eating? I'm sure if you're on the road driving for work a lot your diet isn't too great...

My diet isint the best , Usually a sandwich, coke twix and a apple I get a proper dinner with I get home in the evenings

How mush should I pay for Gym membership I have a pay per visit gym for €10 by night and €6.50 before 4.30 pm

There's no quick way to safely lose weight and keep it off. You should lose a maximum of 2lbs per week. That works out at about a stone every 2 months which is good weight loss.

You have to have your diet in check for this type of weight loss.

A diet doesn't have to means tarving yourself, quite the opposite in fact it just means developing a new way of eating and using different foods. Very important to have a breakfast. Muesli or all bran type is fine.

For lunch have a huge salad, or some chicken, lean meat, sweet potatoes that type of thing. Dinner have whatever you like but try to keep the carbohydrate and fat content down.

Basically what you really need to do is just cut out the chocolate, crisps, biscuits, sweets and highly processed stuff like white bread.

I know a diet is vey important but again when youe on the road all the time, Sandwiches are my only option most of the time, Is brown sliced better than white ???

    Breakfast
    Tea, Toast and CornFlakes

    Lunch
    HOw about brown salad sandwich
    Bottle of Water
    Apple & Orange

    Dinner
    Spuds
    Peas
    Carrots
    Pork Chops ??

    How would this sound

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,859 ✭✭✭logic1

Yeah wholemeal bread is 3 or 4 times less fattening than white bread because white flour is so highly processed.

I sometimes just carry two cans of tuna with me for lunch but that's not everyones taste.

The sandwich would be fine and it doesn't have to be salad.

For dinner probably the worst thing u have in there are spuds. Pretty high in carbohydrate.

The best thing is to just cut out the sweets and snacks in between the meals.

Try that before you start changing around the foods you're eating for your main meals.

    And drink plenty water.

You're paying way too much here. My gym is probably one of the more expensive ones around at 800euro a year and 120euro joining fee (I think) but if you're going 3 times a week at 10e a pop that's 1,440 a year which is pretty ludicrous.

Most gyms range from 80e to 1,000 euro a year depending on their size and range of equipment. 3 or 400 is avergage.

Tupperware is your friend ! Prepare a healthy lunch the night before. It doesn't take long, skip Coronnation street or something while you prepare it. Bring a fork with you too and you're done. Make 2-3 small meals if you are away for most of the day actually.

I lost about a stone and a half to two stone over 3 months last year from a proper diet. I made my lunch the night before or that morning, brought it in in my tupperware and microwaved it.

It was only after that , that I started back in the gym and reduced my bodyfat and increased muscle mass. I didn't have the time to hit the gym before that, but when I changed job I was able to go again.

Eh this is absolutly BASIC stuff!!! Im in Westpoint in Blanch.. its about €500 for the year, i can go as often as i want for this.. You can also do Aerobics classes and stuff as part of the subscription. Most of the aerobics machines have a TV (i avoid those ones).

There is no healthy way to loose weight fast.. with the exception of eating healthy but its not going to happen in a matter of weeks!

You have so good advice here.. take it.. Take it upon yourself to go every second night, thats what i do. AS for what you do when you get there.. lets see.. i do the following.
    5 mins warmup on bike
30 mins run with another 5 walking to cool down (about 5.8km)
20 mins rowing on highest level at an average spm of 35
10 mins on the cross trainer
Thats over an hour on the aerobics.. then i hit the wight machines, i dont do free weights really but i have some basic ones at home i can use. I do about a half hour of the wight machines then i relax in sauna, steam room and Chacusi (however you spell it!)

there's loads, just stick xenadrine or eca stack into google. you'll get alot of anti eca and pro eca.

best place, IMO, to go is http://www.muscletalk.co.uk v big community.

you can ask em in they're supplements section, or just do a search on they're site for old threads, probably better, they'res bound to be loads of info.

i prefer to read about real people experiences than one persons opinion.

Tech - you're being ripped off paying that! I am in bvcc.ie and it's a really nice gym with great personal trainers and It's about 700 a year...I pay €50 a month after a €200 joining fee, and it's open 7.30-10pm and has rowers, treadmills, x training machines, steppers, bikes, other things that I don't know what the hell they are, and a room for classes like Khai Bo, kick-boxing, step etc etc, upstairs they have a spinning section, free weights and about 15 types of weight machines, they also have a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, sun beds and a beauty salon upstairs.

Damn great gym, and a 1 minute walk from my house too :)

In general I do 20 mins jogging (I think it's important to set the treadmill on an incline, even 1% is better than nothing!), 15 mins cycling, 10 mins rowing, then 2 sets of 7 weights, 15 reps each. I do that three times a week and swim about 2 times a week roughly.

I've only been doing this for a month though, have lost a few LB's, but I generally feel a LOT fitter and don't feel as hungry as much as I used to.

But as I said before, you need to be going to the gym on average three times a week to get anything out of it, so my trainer says :-/

As far as i know its upfront.

If you are interested,,, the new National Aquatic Centre has a gym and the membership for students is €400 for the year. This includes access to all the facilities (50m pool, gym etc) It is VERY nice

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 136 ✭✭Kambika

Hmmm 400€ is not to bad, do you know how much it is when you arent a student ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,127 ✭✭✭STaN

possibly around 500-600 (i only remember the student one, they have lots of options)

I forget, they are open all day, only costs €6 or so to get int.

hello, im 5'11 and i weigh 11 stone, which SUCKS! i never weigh myself because its too depsressing but when i started working out in my gym i thought i would definately have lost sum weight. unfortunately no, id put it on! it was then i realised that going to the gym twice a week want enough. try to do a complete over -haul of you diet. i try to do the family shopping because everyone else buys such crap. and of course i eat it. eat as much fruit and veg and salads as possible. i get dejected very easily if i havent lost a few pounds when i start something new. id really like to weigh 9 stone by the time the pressure of summertime is upon us : ) does anyone have any motivational advice. i know i need a personal trainer but my gym doesnt provide them and i can';t afford my own.

Motivational advice? Don't be so concerned about your weight, it's quite irrelevant.

I'm 5'7, 14 stone, and don't consider myself that overweight. Yes, I need to do something about the beer belly, but in the long term I expect another 1/2 stone on me should be fine, in the right places (ie as muscle).

ok, so I'm a broad stocky guy, but that's not the point - the point is so many people, girls particularly, get so uptight about their weight on the scales that they don't realise that their crash diets are removing all the heavy muscle from their bodies, and leaving them more unfit than when they started.

Don't worry about weight, just keep/start doing some cardio training, and do some light weights too (don't worry, they won't build huge muscles if you don't want them).

Did I mention stop worrying about the weights?

Finally, I personally prefer a fitter & heavier girl than a slimmer (more breakable) anorexic looking one :)

Of course, it's true, every guys taste is different. Hope this has been motivating.

    Al.

^what he said. 9 stone will leave you looking like a stick. Don't even think about doing it.

5'11 is round about my height (maybe an inch or so more even).

/me likes girls that are about the same height as me.
