Internet connection help!!!!

    I am new to linux and im just after getting a version of red hat, but i can seem to get my internet connected. Im on a 56k modem:(
    My connection to the internet is with eircom.
    I need to get the name server address supplied by my isp. any ideas?

    Edit: having read your post I wonder, do you have drivers for your 56k modem squire?

    If not, could you perhaps find out the chipset of your modem, it might be easier to direct you to Linux drivers for the same.

    If you have a USR (US Robotics there are currently no Linux drivers).

    If you have a conexant or lucent chipset modem, you can most likely get the thing to work under linux, but, more information is needed.

    Assuming you do have your internal or external modem setup correctly, a standard ppp connection to an eircom dial up should supply the right dns to your os and should append the default gateway of your kernel's routing tables.

    So all you have to do is dial eircom's server and supply the right username and password and pppd should take care of else.

    Eircoms ns = 159.134.237.6

    Can you connect and then ping that IP.
