Cross over?

Silly question, actually it's not really a question, more of an observation.

If I had two PCs with network cards and no hub, and I wanted to network them together, I'd need a cross over cable. Right?

I recently plugged connected my iBook to my PC (Win2k) with a standard non cross over cat5 and the iBook could see the PC and vice versa. Anybody else every try this?

All Macs these days come with auto-sensing Ethernet, so there is never any need to use a crossover cable with them.
