    win xp, home edition, ie browser just sits and does nothing if browsing URL without the "http://" bit. If you enter the full URL, it works away fine. ANy ideas?

    Maybe check what http proxy/DNS server you're using.
    Try setting up another dialup connection... check IE's connection options etc.
    Not 100% sure about this one, but it's a place to start.
