anyhow ive been looking at the following hostels in brussels

    Auberge de Jeunesse "Génération Europe"
    Hôtel de Jeunes "Sleep Well"
    Centre Van Gogh - CHAB

I got provisional bookings with 2 of them, i need to confirm today. Anyone got any experience with any of these.

    Hey there...

Did the same trip your doing b4 Christmas...

I stayed in the Generation Europe Hostel in Brussels... really nice and clean place. It was only something like €15 a nite. It's about a 15 min walk to the centre of Brussels, but is only 5 mins from the tube station. To be honest the hostel is lovely... but the area around it is a bit run down... but your close enough to the centre etc.

When I was in Amsterdam I stayed in the 'Flying Pig Downtown Hostel'.. which is along the main shopping street and only a 5 min walk from the central train station. The atmosphere in the hostel was really good and it had character. Mets loads of interesting backpackers etc.. Their website address is - http://www.flyingpig.nl

Anyway.. hope you enjoy your trip!
Just post anymore q's u might have on the board

Most hotels in Brussels are really cheap at weekends as they only get used during the week - the Gresham Belson is, AFAIK, €40 for a 4 star hotel at weekends.

As for what else is in Brussels - The Grane Place (great bars, wonderful tapas bar off Avenue Louise as well), Zara, cheap metro to Bruges, and a great nightclub called the Bazaar on Rue des Capuchin - it's truly bizarre!

    cheers for all the replies..

I booked us into the generation hostel there a few days ok, only booked for the first night probably go to amsterdam then. Looks like I made a decent choice from what you said..

The other lads dont want to book before we go there as they dont want to limit themselves to one place. I also came accross the flying pig during my goolging seems like a good spot, we'll stay there if they are not booked out.

I actually stayed in the gresham belson about a year ago, nice place was fairly cheap also, like you said around 40euro for a fairly nice hotel.

I'll go look for a map now and see if i can find rue des Capuchin....
