    i started my 6 months work experience as a computer technicain last monday in a institute of technology. I am just settling in enjoying myself and getting to know people when on friday i am told that they cant afford to pay me and that i will have to look for another job.

    I find this out from the head of the department where i worked who done the interviews he had just found out that personal arent allowing any more 2nd grade technicains like me.

    I try to save the ship as it is the best work experience going by saying i work for free as i really want the experience.

    I am told the unions wont allow this as i MIGHT be taking work from uniosied workers.

    So here i am know at home wodering what to do.
    I dont know where i am what i am doing on what to do.

    The experience was all organised by the college where i am studying so surely not the same college where i was working.

    I am looking who to blame surely the department for not checking
    whether they could hire me?

    Maybe the goverment for mismanaging the country.Thank God i didnt vote at all.

    So me rant overand jobless and back to projects in the college.

    God here is me thinking the 2003 could be the best year yet? i have tried to look on the postives but i do see any.

    A depressed student without work experience and no motivation to go inot to do college work for the next 6 months while my friends all earn money.

    Your thoughts please!!!

    I'm sure the college will be able to place you SOMEWHERE, sounds like you're doing the accelerated technician program?
    You may have to move to the other side of the country but they should be able to get you some other placement.

    Either that, or start job hunting yourself.

    Dont wait for the College to do somthing for you, get a letter from them and go looking yourself!

    I know how you feel! I had a job lined up with RTÉ during the general election. They told me it would probably lead into a weekend job in the current affairs department. So then, there I was, happy as Larry thinking this was my big break! Then, day before I was set to go to Dublin I was told they couldn't take me because I was under 18 and I might be working past midnight! I'm lucky to be in bed by midnight at the best of times! So much for workers rights!

    yep its a **** its not that they dont want you there they just cant have you there according to the big bosses who set the rulz i had same problom 2 years ago but plenty of schools/ fas/ collages places around to take ya on . even a goverment building such and the county council
