    From the Beeb website:
The Top Four Songs in our survey are all similar in that they were voted for in an organised and passionate way by listeners who felt strongly enough that their song should be chosen as the World's Favourite Song

    lol :D

I notice no reference was made on that site to the "800 years of oppression" comments that went with a lot of the Wolfe Tones votes :D

Is no one else really embarrassed by the Wolfe Tones? They make me cringe.

It's funny to have an obscure Irish song up there but it's sad that it's from a bunch die hard nationalists that attempt to validate the IRA's worst atrocities through song.

So what you're trying to say is that you're embarassed by the men and women who fought for Irish independence?

The song is hardly obscure, just about every person in Ireland has heard it.

I don't think that you are going to solve 800 years of disagreement (or 735 or whatever) here.

Firstly, I think the poster was referring to the manner in which the IRA has carried out their struggle for a 32 county republic and the way that the Wolfe Tones have 'allegedly' given support financial and otherwise for terrorism.

Secondly, i think that the poster was referring to the fact that the song is obscure on a global scale seeing as the total population of Ireland is somewhere under 5 million and that the total internet population of the world is somewhere around 400 million.

BTW, I am not saying that i am embarassed by the Wolfe Tones.

Yes but the song has nothing to do with the present day IRA and their aims in N. Ireland, despite what they have done to use it for their own purposes. Also the song is known outside of Ireland, the UK, USA, Australia etc. I've even seen a chap from Scandanavia who had it in his fileshare a bit ago.

I was referring to the Wolfe Tone's 'alleged' links with the present day IRA.

I acknowledge that the song is popular with people worldwide. If you consider that the number 2 song on that list would be the Indian equivalent of 'The Fields Of Athenry', the Wolfe Tones song is relatively obscure.

It's the band rather than the song itself that gets on my nerves.

    Bunch of trogladytic hate-mongers.

I spent about an hour doing that! Clearing Cookies and entering a new email address, quite funny actually.
