WinXP's boot.ini

I need a bit of help with my Windows XP boot.ini file. I've got 2 hard drives, my master on the primary channel with WinXP Pro, and a secondary with Win98 SE on the same channel.
WinXP's boot.ini has my first drive down as
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect , but what I need to know is what I need to put in so that I get a choice of OS when I boot up. I've already put in the timeout, etc. but I don't know what multi, disk, rdisk, partition my second drive is. It's the slave on the primary channel, and the WINDIR is \WINDOWS, so can someone tell me?

I am not sure if this will help you, but check out HyperOS...

It will allow you to install 20 OS's on your HD. anything from Win3.11 to XP and evry OS inbetween.

This will elimnate the worry of setting up partitions fro multi OS installs...

Will post fiurther info when I can

theres a gui inwin xp to control this.
its in control panel > system > advanced > the top button cant remember the name (im not using xp atm) from there it allows u edit the o.s. dualboot screen. e.g. which o.s.'s to dualboot, how long screen should be displayed, which is default etc

whosurpaddy thats no good to him.. all it allows you to do is edit the file itself in notepad! He needs to know "HOW" to edit the file for his config.

This MIGHT do for the second disk.. try it but backup original first.

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows 98"

Also dont forget by adding in another line you will need the default one under timeout

My 98 is on a different disk so i dont use all that.. its simply c:\="osname here"

using the windows xp recovery console
i cant remember the specific command
    type help/?

but theres a command to search hds and write there operating systems to boot.ini
saves u all the hassle :-)

i think its bootcfg under the recovery console, but tbh its not what u want here.

    As saru said:

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows 98"

This should do, you can leave in the WinXP line, and test it on boot.

    I put in
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows 98"
and the boot menu comes up when I start the computer, but when i pick windows 98 the computer reboots. Any ideas about what's causing this?
