Self defense is about more than hitting, ever heard of verbal Judo or awareness?

I did a type of Karate called Tzocho Ten (not spelled correctly but thats how it sounds) which has alot of kick boxing in it. i trained for five years but due to lack of interest the club shut down. It'd be cool to have a self defence forum.

I done kickboxing myself for a while last year, very good sport i thought...its more about hitting them before they hit you but its not the best selfdefence when your on the streets so to speak.

During the summer i trained in ju jit su (big typo!) nows its the stuff cuz you learn close contact and its a lot tougher than kickboxing i found...the training is harder.

Karate i thought was useless...its all about blocking and prepares you for very little.

At the moment im not training in anything just getting back in the swing of things at the gym

    Keep fit

That was the type of Karate that I was practicing way back in '97 (for a year).

Yeah, its more about blocking but I should tell you, its really good. Especially with the kind of physical endurance training that we were getting (5 miles run, 100 pushups, 50 chinups and 15mins of frog jumps prior to every session!!!) it was SERIOUSLY GOOD. They don’t teach to use Nanchack and such things until you earn quite senior ranks though (like Brown belt or Black belt)
