    The Ballroom of Romance presents:

    Ballroom #9
    Friday the 17th of January
    The Lower Deck Portobello
Doors 9pm, €6 in, free CD-r to the first 100

    The Chalets
Two “girls”, two “boys” and a dilbot, the Chalets are
made up of people from the Warlords of Pez, Palomine
and Baba Snooks. A bit like the kids from Captain
Planet, when they come together “they make
infectiously catchy songs with a new angle on pop”.
Have been making tidal waves on the Irish scene over
the past six months, you’ll be hearing a lot more
about them over the coming year. Don’t miss them –
they’re bleedin’ deadly! Oh! And they’ll be on the
next Road Relish release with Neosupervital.

    Rollers/Sparkers

Eclectic and pioneering act, these guys have just
released their debut e.p. “Geography for the Leaving”
(brought out through the Lazybird label). This Dublin
three piece make interesting and enjoyable music for
the whole (or at least the black sheep) of the family
    to enjoy.

    Gregor 57

Imagine a radio that wont quite tune in,
    completely nonsensical and more than
    a little pleasurable.

    i want descriptions
i ahve very few nights that i dont work so theyre gonna have to be excellent for me to get up off me arse and see them. and so i want some reviews please....if ye can oblige

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 410 ✭✭Holyghost

I don't think I've seen any reviews of any of these bands, although the Chalets have been talked alot about in Hotpress and further afield.

Chalets = female fronted indie pop. Think the Breeders guided by Phil Spector. Check out their mp3 at

    www.thechalets.com

Rollers/ Sparkers= Experimental. These guys released a deadly E.P. called 'Geography for the leaving' which sounds like (to me anyways) in parts Early Pink Floyd, The Dust Brothers but overall are very hard to describe. They have an mp3 at thumped.com

Gregor= even more experimental. I really can't reference these guys.. very unusual stuff. There's a snippet of one of their tunes at their website:

    http://www.gegor57.com

...and there is a stall with lots of great Irish independent music for sale at cheap prices.

I remember alot of people used to really really hate gregor-57.. but I quite liked them. Think 'very heavy sonic youth'.

You'll either like them or want to run away screaming..

Here's the thing though.... the lower deck in rathmines??? The sound in there is poor to put it mildly..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 410 ✭✭Holyghost

Are you talking about the sound at previous Ballroom's? We've steadily improved it. It ain't Whelans but it's getting there...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 655 ✭✭✭Raggamuffin

i have been a few times and the sound did'nt really bother me.
the atmosphere is great and the bands really get into it.

best one so far was the warlords of pez one and i think neosupervital was there too.

    very good.

i hope i did'nt make amistake and mix up too seperate ballrooms.

Two: The two of us are going to the Ballroom of romance

We can still go see Gangs of New York before hand. City of God is supposed to be better, a foreign film with subtitles.

It's only €5 in, so you should have enough money for alcoholic substances of some sorts, meths is so underrated! :)

It's in the music room above the firestone on Middle Abbey Street!

Somethin else to entertain himself........... hmmmmm...........  :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Amz

Well i didnt elaborate as i thought that statement spoke for itself.....

I only have €5 so ill have to finish off the aftershock that i have sittin on my desk here in front of me!!

    Drunken Shenannigans Ahoy!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Amz

OK half the aftershock is now gone so unfortunately the shenannigans wont be quite as drunken but shenannigans of a sort are guranteed!!

I wish someone else would reply to this now coz i feel like im talking to myself here......

    Anyone at all......

    Even you Raggamuffin?

    no?
    you asleep??

    LIGHT WEIGHT!!!!

I havent slept for 3 weeks hehehehe! i mean properly of course....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Amz

Yep looks like im keepin myself company again.....

Im not as boring as i originally thought.....

Although thats just a matter of opinion and i suppose im biased to a certain degree.....

OK im goin downstairs now to watch Dirty Harry again.....

Clint Eastwood and his big gun are somewhat appealing at this hour of the night for some reason.....

Maybe someone with a qualification in psychology can explain to me why this is??!

OH well see you soon my darlings of the world of phantom message board!

    NIGHT!

    xx

The budgerigar circus? Nearly perfected the flaming loop trick, but im having trouble with the budgey cannonball. Finally got him into the cannon but the helmet fell off, it won't stay on. Tried glueing it on, but that didn't work. I've now found staples are the best.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Amz

    What glue did you use?

I bet you didnt follow my advice did you!!!

"No More Nails" is what i used for the Gerbils and that worked wonders. it only caused minor skin or in this case fur irritations and was far more pleasant that the staple incidents and the double sided tape tragedy. I recommend you pop down to Woodies or B&Q and pick some up It allows the animal more freedom of movement also as staples tend to catch in cage bars and rusting can also be a problem.

Yes! trust "No More Nails" for all your small animal circus needs!!

Thanks to everyone who came along on Friday. Under instructions from the venue we had to turn people away from 10 o'clock or so, but managed to squeeze some more in after people left. Apologies to anyone who didn't get in.
