Sendmail question

    Hey guys,

got a question here regarding sendmail.

A mail was sent yesterday to 3 recipients. Two of them got the mail yesterday shortly after it was sent. The 3rd recipient didn't recieve it until this morning.

Upon checking /var/log/maillog the mail was recieved for all three recipients yesterday at pretty much the same time. This same user apparently has had this happen to him before, and it usually happens about once a week.

I *think* the version of sendmail is 8.11.6 (or that's the lowest version it can be at any rate since the machine in question is an RH 7.2 install).

    Any ideas/suggestions ??

The users are local to the sendmail server, and the user in question does check his mail frequently.

I should also mention that this is not an isolated incident and has, apparently, happened to others too. Another user (apparently) didn't recieve a specific email until three days after it was sent ***

Put sendmail -v -q into a cron job for every 10 minutes and see if that helps any.

are the users using a mtu on the localbox or are they pop/imap ing the mail down to somewere else? If they aren't pop/imap ing mail then check to make sure they've not in their dir's that'll cause the mail to go walkies. Check the headers of the mail as well, logs tend to not lie.

surely just reading the mail logs an setting sendmail to do a q run every 10 mins is less hassle then adding the -v to a cron..

    just my 2 cent.

    Ro.
