Heres one for the non mathematical ones among ye smile.gif
There are 7 butter making machines (and why not). Each of them turn out fully wrapped 1lb slabs of butter.....or do they??
NO! One of the butter making thingys is busted and is making butter that is slightly less dense than the others,(0.01lbs) but not enuff to distinguish with touch whatever. Anyway. You have a digital scales accurate to whatever (enuff anyway).
Problem is its battery powered and there is only enuff power for one weighing b4 it goes kabluie (as these things do). How do u find which machine (of the 7) is the busted one in one weighing?

Well in the time it would have taken to figure that one out, you could just go out and buy a new battery.

put on : 1 block from machine 1
    2 blocks from machine 2
    3 blocks from machine 3
    4 blocks from machine 4
    5 blocks from machine 5
    6 blocks from machine 6
and 7 blocks from machine 7
obviously 1(wiehgtof1)+2(WO1)+3(WO1)+4(WO1)+5(WO1)+6(WO1)+7(WO1) = total weight but this weight will be out by some multiple of the deficit of the less dense butter
this answers totally worng. please ignore wink.gif
