Having a few problems and cant seem to get anywhere with Sky.

I was due my installation this morning and got a wake up call at 7.20 (ouch) to say he would be at my house within the hour. The guy asked me if I had received my viewing card, which I have not, so he said that actually he cant do the instalation and I would have to ring Sky after 9.00 to book another day.

So I rang Sky to find out about the viewing card and they said it was posted on 20th Dec. So It is obviously stuck in the new €90m colour blind letter crusher that An Post installed, (how many postal sorting workers does €90m pay for?)

Back to the point, Sky said that the installer should have done the installation without the card and tried to ring him. They could not get through so said I would have to book another date.

The earliest available that they could give me is Jan 13th. This is not good enough! I rang three times to check I was definately getting installed today because I had to take a day off work. Sky said they can only see booking dates on the computer which are usually about two weeks away and there is no waiting list for urgent installations.

Is there any way to hurry this up?

    Hi John.

Just a quick question. Who did you order Sky Digital from? Dixons/Currys? Sky themselves or a local TV dealer/installer?

Ring them up and advise them that you will cancel you sub unless they get someone to you within a reasonable timeframe. You Have 8 days from install to cancel anyway .so try that one.they might do something then.. Although I have found them to be a fairly hard nosed bunch to deal with in the past .some of them are very reasonable .

Unfortunately I went direct to Sky as I thought going direct would be quicker and more efficient. When I signed up here a few days later I found Tony's site where he was offering a Panasonic STB and installation before Xmas... regretting I didnt cancel with Sky then. Problem is that now the installation has gone back up to €70 where as I am currently on €37.50 with Sky, so changing now probably wont be any quicker and will cost me more.

I threatened to cancel this morning and told them that I was not happy with the service, that I already had NTL so it was not an essential purchase and that having to take another day off work in January and loose more money would be rediculous, but it did no good, so I guess I am stuffed.

I rang NTL and they said they could do an installation early next week, but out of principal I would rather go without than give NTL any more money.

Pity that, from experience and from others around here, you cant go wrong with a local installer. You wont know who Sky will send round. :(

No worries mate, tomorrow I am going to have one more crack at them and see if they will contact the installer to try to get an earlier date and to make sure that I can get a Panasonic box. If they wont play ball at least on securing a Panasonic I will be ringing you tomorrow as from what I have read that is the one to have, you are highly recomended and from your site I see you cover Bray ;)

Got on to Sky again and they told me the installer was from Sierra Communications. Sky confirmed again that the installation should have happened yesterday despite not having the card, which I now have BTW.

They told me to ring Sierra on Thursday and see if they can give me a more suitable date, and if I dont get any joy to go back to Sky and they will sort it out for me.

Maybe making some progress at last...

Well I am happy to say I am now all sorted out with Sky Digital thanks to Tony!

I could not get anywhere with Sky themselves so I told them to stuff it and went with Tony. Nixon did a superb job on the installation and I can’t fault one moment of my dealings with satellite.ie.

    Great job, thanks guys.
