I just bought my second DVD player Sony DVPNS305. You can pick it up between 200-300 but if you can wait you might get it cheaper in sales. It is slim, nice looking and it is Sony . It plays mp3 cds but I am still trying to get the sound quality right  and you get two free dvds when you sent the coupon the player comes with. Spiderman and Gladiator is in the list of 5 you can choose from ;)

Here is a review of the plaver

LIDL have a nice one at the moment for 119 youos though its not multi region as far as i know yet. Does have pleanty of other nice features though MP3, cdr, cdrw, 5.1 sound.

I think tesco also do the warfdale 750s player and that one is multi region, and plays mps and all the rest.

I would avoid a sony player. Good wuality but very limited in features and can only be made multi region by chipping! THey are not great with cdr`s/vcd`s they play some makes of cdr but not all!

DVD players is some times a case of cheaper is better.

Look to www.dvddebate.com for dvd player makes that can be multiregion cracked with hand set hacks. Just click on the hand set hacks in the menu on the left side of the page!

I was thinking of getting this Powerpoint DVD player. It's only €149 and claims to be multiregion. I just wonder if it'll play RCE R1 discs. And whether or not it's multi outta the box or with remote hack.

It does play DVD,MP3,SVCD,VCD,CVD,DVCD,CD,CD-R & CD-RW which is nice! It also has 5.1 output if ever I wanna connect one of those LiDL speaker systems! :D

Where abouts are ya thinking of buying that one byte, Id prefer one with 5.1 output as ill get a speaker system at a later date.

Actually im very tempted there, just having trouble findind any independant reviews, damn microsoft powerpoint :)

Well I'll be buying it at work as I work in electrical shop. So I expect to get a few quid off it!

You can buy it from that link I posted above. Theyre selling it for €149 including delivery which isnt bad. Or just find an electrical retailer who sells Powerpoint products. Theyre distributed by Shomar Ltd so just find a shop who have Shomar as a supplier.

I can't find reviews for it either. It's a rebadged effort and I dont yet know who manufactures it. It's slightly similar to Scan SC2500 and I'll check it out further tomorrow at work. I will try the Scan remote hacks to see if they work on the Powerpoint. I sure hope they do.

I got the JVC one from xtravision for Christmas. Seems the best as the Sony one doesnt play svcd's.

Was kinda pissed off with the offer though. They offer €100 free rentals but they give you 50x2€ vouchers and you can only use one voucher per rental.

Well I went for the Powerpoint in the end and I'm very impressed with it. It plays RCE R1 discs "out of the box" which is nice! No need for remote "hacks" to change region. Must see how she fairs with MP3 playback, and I'm looking to see if it'll view JPEG files as it shows such in the diagrams.

Some nice wee added functions too and some gimmickey! But well worth €149!

As opposed to being able to spend the whole €100 in one go on a load of rentals?

So you have to pay a little money for a rental.. you still get it a lot cheaper and unless they up the price of the DVD player to make up for it, you got a good deal!

Anyone know if that Powerpoint DVD player will play DVD-R / DVD-RW?

(Or of a cheap one that will?)

    Cheers

Dunno if it'll play DVD-R as I haven't got any to try on it. I did burn my first VCD last night to see if it would work (worried that it would only play prerecorded VCD) and it worked fine. I had one music track on it though which had terrible sound. Must be something wrong in sound settings or the way i burned it!

The Cyber Home 505 will play some DVD-R, its dependant on how the disc was recorded.

Just a note if you decide to buy it, in the hidden menu, DO NOT DELETE THE TABLE CONTENTS option.

It will be stuck on whatever region it is set to and youll have to reinstall the firmware.

You can get it there, Richer Sounds had them in before christmas but were sold out last time I asked.

Apparently it reads DVD-Rs in UDF1.2 Format (in Nero), now i have two sitting at home belonging to a m8 and one plays no problem but not the other, but that could just be the disc which is badly scratched
