Well it was'nt dull! The kick off was delayed by over an hour
due to congestion, presumably as Villa Park is'nt used to full houses! Well the ticketing operation was'nt anyway.

Villa were it seems unlucky with Staunton out with ankle swell and Jonsson injured in the warm-up.

Still we're still in with a chance for Plastic Treble 2

    Mike.

    edit semi-final draw

    Man Utd v Blackburn
    Sheffield Utd v Liverpool

At last we know what it's like to win again. It's been so long. I thought it was going to be one of those nights again. Bad passing and ball hogging were rife. But somehow we managed to stay in the game, a la Danny Murphy midfield mastero with Gerrard fighting extremely hard on the pitch. It was good to see some spirit in Liverpool players something they sorely missed.

But hey a win is a win is a win. Wonder who we'll be playing in the final?:D

Stevie is back to his best, what A game tbh, im very drunk atm but my god well done the lads, on sunday young little toffee boy Rooney has a rude awakening!

A Liverbird upon my chest, we are the men of Gerrard's Best!

Didnt see the match was working.
Glad to see we won, but I'm still pissed off we threw away a 3-1 lead. A wins a win but that's still stupid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭BKtje

I must say that that is the first Liverpool game ive enjoyed watching in a while. Stevie Gerrard was on fire tonight and its good to see him playing well again.

First half wasnt too good but the 2nd half. omg :)
Some very dodgy decesions by the ref for both sides but in the end i think the right team won. Much as i hate to admit it

Nice to see that man u and liverpool missed each other in the semi's. Leaves it open for one hell of a final. The best the plastic cup has seen in a while :p

I see liverpool got the handy semi final draw tho ...

Should be a good Rovers VS Liverpool final.

on the late news they showed the "goals" from the game.
the broadcaster(who incidently looks the head off barry venison)talked us through the first villa goal and the first three scouser goals,3-1.

*waiting to see hitzelbergers goal and the murphy winner*

he then said , and there were lots more goals in that game as liverpool went on to win 4-3,but showed none.!!!!

Liverpool are useless they should have trashed villa

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

Villa played well last night and Liverpool did well to beat them. 4-3 was a fair reflection on the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 233 ✭✭Congoose

As the only Villa fan around, I think they were very unlucky. Murphy's free kick was a very harsh decision (great finish though), and I've only seen it from one angle but it looked like Riise blatantly brought the ball down with his hand before setting up Baros. Not that Villa's third wasn't a bit lucky but it could have been a very different match. Credit to the pool for keeping up the pressure right to the end.

Well worth seeing. Another 25-yard cracker, although Kirkland possibly should have kept it out.

Seems to have been a cracking match, good cup tie.

Don't count the chickens about makin it to the final for either camp, a cup game is a cup game.

BTW Good to see the fair weather scousers back on the boards, been keeping very low lads when yer team was getting a hiding.

Well I have seen most of the other Liverpool fans have been posting quite frequently in the last couple of weeks, not too many others who have been away. Just because you can't get to a Pc for a couple of days doesn't mean that you support your team any less...

G'wan the pool. 2-1 Liverpool in the final, forlan to stick one in off riise's left arm for a consolation goal.....

Murphy's free kick was a very harsh decision
I thought Baros was tripped. Was Dublin not about a yard offside, great finish though. I saw Dublin crying at the end, he must reckon it was his last chance at silverware. Villa have some great players and were unlucky but TBH 'Pool deserved some luck for a change. I felt sorry for Babbel, but Vassell was running rings around him. Once again Baros showed he is head and shoulders above Owen ATM but will probably be replaced by Heskey for Sunday.

    comes out of his hole

I think every pool fan was relieved when murphy scored in injury time-it didnt look good when dublin got the equalisera case of "here we go again"-we really needed to win(even if it was in the worthington cup)last nite if we are to put up the slightest resistance in saturdays derby...nice to see the lads actually converting their chances last nite-in fairness, villa played well and didnt deserve to be beaten...poor congoose :p

So discussing that scouse not winning, down in 5th, behind us and Everton and out of the CL is tripe.
When we were playing rubbish football you were well fit to post "tripe" but now cannot take it. Fair enough

Fair point, yop - utd fans did take a lot of abuse recently and now its payback - enjoy it! we sure did (i've no doubt you will enjoy it)

I do think there is some tripe on the board tho-sacking gh for 1!

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators, Regional West Moderators Posts: 16,724 Mod ✭✭✭✭yop

Peeve - exactly what I am on about- less than 4 weeks ago were absoulte rubbish, ye were winning everthing in sight and as is healthy there was plenty of slagging.
We took it and came out fighting, and now for some strange reason the tables have completly turned and it is pay back time.

I am just making the point that he who flings shi*e should stand up and take it, some of the lads here have buried their heads in the sand and will not defend their team. There are a good few lads here, yourself, mike, Makaveli and even thegills will defend their team. It annoys me that these fair weathers come back and post when ye only win. Not true supporters.

I agree that GH should not be sacked, problem is with the players, we had fairies, Beckham, Blanc and even Ferdinand who felt they had the devine right to play for united, we lost everything they played in, when the got injured players with pride took over, Neville, O'Shea, Brown came in and are not well worthy of their place.

That is what ye are lacking, players like Traore, Diouf, Biscan, Smicer, IMO, do not have the heart to wear the jersey, Rise, Gerard, Murphy do. He should swallow his pride and lose these prima donnas and get players who will play with their heart, not their bank account.

Totally off the thread BTW the way!!

When did I post anything relating to how UTD were playing? Try not to go making such dashing statements Yop.

Also this fairweather fan business, if you knew me youd know im as big a Liverpool fan as the next and have been since the time I could walk... (damn soccer mad father!) Im well used to taking "slaggings" etc and have no problem with it so kindly spare me the pleasure of including me within that statement, I wish I was a fairweather fan as then it wouldnt dominate my life :)

Back to important matters, hopefully Didi will be fit again as he is going to be very much missed in the next 2 - 3 weeks.

Cant add any more to that tbh

I think gh isnt willing to risk his younger players, which is a real pity - maybe our youth system isnt as good as utds but we do have the odd star who, if given the chance, would play for the club and not the money - look at kirkland(granted, he was bought) but gh was unwilling to risk him until he was forced to. Same with richie partridge - he's at coventry atm and by all accounts playing quite well. Look at what JOS has achieved at utd in the last few months-maybe we dont have a player of his talent but we do have players willing to give their all for Liverpool football club
Totally off the thread BTW the way!!

Sure isnt that always the way!! :D

Nobody is discussing Liverpool being in 5th behind XYZ, read the thread foo. What was being discussed was that some Pool fans have been accused of being fairweather fans because they haven't posted to Soccer boards for a while. I know that I have a valid reason for not pouring my all into the inane threads that you are often involved in yop. I am sure that those others who haven't posted recently do too. UNfortunately yop I will have to let you in on a couple of secrets:-
Santa doesn't exist and there is life outside boardsie.
    .

I am a Liverpool fan through and through, and Unlike most United fans I have been to see them play at Anfield, in fact I have seen them there more than once. That you accuse me or anybody on these boards of being a fairweather supporter because they haven't the time to try and come up with a response you won't flame on boards is a bit short-sighted.

Why would United fans go and see scouse play!

You really are a stupid Cnut Yop, look behind the spoiler and you'll find out what it says.

    Fairweather supporter = False
Partner has just had a baby and I have spent the last while doting over the newest Liverpool fan to enter the world = True.

Again get your fcuking facts in line before you make stupid and unfounded accusations.

It's unfortunate because it used to be that an opinion was put forward and spoken about, now it's Yop's opinion is shouted at everyone, he flames all who do not agree and then after a while comes round and says something mildly placating (look it up Yop) to let everyone think he has grown up a bit.

I think theres a few more than 3 supporters of these forums. I for one have been posting here for the last two weeks talking about liverpools poor standard lately.

As I recall it has been the biggest topic of discussion on in the soccer forum for the last week.

Another thing for you think about yop, maybe they don't post because you come up with so many sweeping statements that make thew thread unreadable.

    G'wan the pool

Pity for the sprog with a da who hides behind his PC to fire abuse at people, pity he was such a girl when it came getting stuck in on the soccer pitch.

Point is that you are a bitter little scouse supporter who cannot take a defeat.

jonno - what ever lad, what ever - since you cannot count I mentioned 4, and a few can mean any number.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 857 ✭✭✭kamobe

I've never been so bored by a 7 goal game in my life :)
Liverpools goals just happened, and Villa really did deserve to win...

I'll be happy when the Reds start playing footy again. Gerard did play well, which brings a smile to my face. Owen ran around in cricles AGAIN, and was muck, AGAIN. Heskey showed some heart when he played, so credit him at least for that.

What really gets me though, is the long ball thing Liverpool keep doing. Owen is hardly a target man(actually, what is he again?). Heskey would be the obvious target, when he's playing.

I guess, I'm not content with just a win.

Mustn't have been your ankle I broke playing at college, shame really.

Goddamn yop, I am not the one who hides behind my PC, You know who I am. You are still pussying out of dropping your name. If you want to see me get stuck in on a pitch then come on down to C'bar, we play on Monday nights and you will be welcome to a lesson in footy.

Looks like this thread is following the pattern laid out above.

    playing at college

With yourself me thinks. The words couldn't kick snow off a rope and you match well together as far I remember.

And playin astro turf soccer is not on a par with league soccer.

Again with the ill informed, we are in training for the league in which we play every summer. We train on Monday nights, I also play for another hour on Monday nights and train with a local Gaelic team then theres two hours on a Tuesday et al..

Fair enough Kamobe - waste of skin on the old fingers anyway
Owen ran around in cricles AGAIN, and was muck, AGAIN. Heskey showed some heart when he played, so credit him at least for that.

Where did he play Heskey? If he plays him on the left it is a waste, he is a target man out and out. Owen needs to be supplied, Gerard has great potential but I think his public ridicule by GH has not helped him. Murphy has great potential but was he injured or left out?

Bar that there is no one to pass it to owen, not pump it up, but pass the bloody thing, Richie partridge is higly rated but he is on load, a mistake I think. Berger is another who can play but he is finished it seems

Richie is out at coventry and playing excellent. McAllister wants to keep em out there....
Murphy has great potential but was he injured or left out?
Murphy scored two yesterday :). The winner and one from a set piece.
    Where did he play Heskey?
Up beside Baros, and he put himself about for the bit he played (only 15 mintues or so).
Berger is another who can play but he is finished it seems
He's off in the states getting treatment to the best of my knowledge...

So from a pool view do you not think that last nite was the best team ye have, I know didi is injured, but what is available?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 857 ✭✭✭kamobe

Liverpool have grand cover in all areas of the pitch, the squad is big.
But, the first team just isn't good enough in my view. They lack a consistently good striker, a real creative midfielder, and of course some width.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,392 ✭✭✭jonno

    Finally back to footie chat:p

IMO it is the strongest we have at the moment considering Babbel is not match fit.

We need another winger other than Berger though. He aint consistant enough (when he plays that is).

Yay, Yop drags the topic waaay to the left, then deftly swerves back at the last moment to make it look as if he's got a shred of maturity in him.

Liverpool have needed width for years now, everyone knows it except Houllier.

Great thread guys! :D For a while there I was wondering if I'd left an unexploded bomb rather than a footie post here last night!

The final I belive will be between Liverpool after a scare and Manchester United as they're getting away with murder right now while Blackburn have been blowing hot and cold.

Apparently if you can belive those wretched preimum rate teamtalk ads on Teletext a world class winger is on the way (trouble is they something like that every day!).

    Mike.

According to GH he just wasnt match fit. Vassell was making him look like an amatuer. He is just going to prolong his frist team come back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Why oh why did I just read all of that.
I would be great to see a thread stay on track. Ok, so Liverpool are doing badly and Man Utd are doing well atm, when it was the reverse Utd fans got a slagging now we are bearing the brunt of it. But there is no need to hijak every fucking thread related to Liverpool and start flaming. FFS lads we're not 10 year olds.
Talk about fair weather supporters is bollox. How can you possibly call someone fair-weather because they havent posted on an internet messageboard in a while.

Back on topic. We need wingers. Berger is in America having more knee surgery, so lets forget about him for now. Smicer is crap, I cant understand why he gets his game. And Traore, everytime he gets the ball I panic.
I think we should beat Sheffield Utd and Man Utd should beat Blackburn. When time comes round to the final though, who knows what kinda form the teams will be in. I think we can win it though. Utd will be focusing on the CL I'm sure and well, GH will need something to stick in the cabinet may aswell be this tea cup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 857 ✭✭✭kamobe

I didn't read anything about Babbel, but he was indeed HELLA peesched off alright. He stood on his own in the dugout sulking throught the 2nd half...

Was looking at the Liverpool website just there, and the various polls. Gerard being voted man of the match, fair enough. And danny murphy being voted player of the season so far, which again (to me) seems fair. But for each count Michael Owen is there in 4th. I'm the first person to admit when someone is playing well, but to praise someone when they aren't is beyond me :)

FúCK lIVERPOOL! they should of lost! Villa played better in the second half and by right should of gotten a draw if not a win!!!!!!!!!! Liverpool were dead lucky! ill tell ya that much 4 free!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,802 ✭✭✭thegills

    Liverpool were dead lucky
There's no denying that but we have been unlucky in recent games, Sunderland for example.

Berger - ever since he chickened out of a tackle with Duff a couple of seasons ago when Blackburn dumped us out of the FA Cup I haven't really liked him. Occassionally he redeems himself (pass to Owen FA Cup win and goal v Utd.). I still think GH is not allowing the players to play their own games.

Smicer - for Czechoslovakia he can take on players and cross the ball, but for Liverpool he always just knocks it back to where it came from.

Traore - IMO has been excellent this season and has battled well. Fair enough he gave away a penno but he blocked loads of goal bound efforts too.

Bring back Richie and FFS give him a run, or even a lst 20 minutes against a crap team, Utd. in the WC final maybe.
