Sorry to be so arsenal-centric with a thread but i really need this question answered.

Basically, i havent seen as much of arsenal this year as i would have liked and i havent been over at all. It seems that every time i watch them Gilberto is on the verge of play the entire time. He seems to link nicely with viera sometimes, but others he seems completly anonymous. After watching todays game (draw with spurs) he hardly featured at all in the first half and as a result spurs had the run of midfield.

I realise that with type of game he plays its sometimes hard to see all that he does on TV, so has anyone been to highbury and seen him play this year? Does he do a lot of unnoticed work? (Occy, im looking at you :) )

From what ive seen, i think ljundberg might be the better option in the centre but id like to know :)

Don't know too much about Gilberto.

However, Spurs had the run of midfield (and the entire pitch for that matter) for the first half because player for player they were the better side. They were hungry and tenacious in the tackle, and should have been three up before the penalty was awarded. Steve Carr was outstanding, and was the reason Pires was moved to central midfield in the second half.

Second half Arsenal improved no end, and Parlour in particular was impressive.

All in all, a fair result, BUT only considering the score at half time. Had Cole not made those two goal line clearances it would have been an easy Spurs win.

Gilberto is a class player and will probably exceed Viera as best midfielder in England.

His 1st season in England is bound to be difficult i was surprised to see him fit in so well and play so well also.
Compare him to Edu and you see what i mean takes South Americans a long time to settle in (Veron ,Angel ,half of Newcastle 1st team etc:)

But this guy at the start of the season was crunching players and playing Braziliant looked ragged agaisnt Man utd so maybe needs a rest cant be easy for him to come over and fit in also wasnt he in some thing in the summer :D

Class player imho and havent seen the best of him yet.

I think Gilberto is very good on the ball as most Brazilians are but he's finding it difficult to adapt to the english way of things!! next season he'll be 1 of the best in the prem

Jury still out here Dust, but he seems impressive alright, good engine and desire, as the KDJ says it seem the sout armerican (cough cough veron!) need at least a year! to settle in, should be a good player but needs to get to a bigger club to show his real ambition :p

    he's a twat.
he should learn to tackle by kicking the ball and not the man.

    you were damn lucky yesterday.

What the hell?! Thats about the third or fourth post you've done that in along with a PM... WTF!?

Replying to the thread here... I totally agree with what yop said there. South American midfielders need some time to settle in. Some examples are Juan Sebastian Veron, Edu and Juan Pablo Angel.

Yes, im aware of the settling in factor. Not because hes Sth American but becauses hes a Wenger Buy. Most of the players that monseuir Arsene buys take about a season to settle in properly and fulfill thier potential - Bergcamp, Henry, Viera being the prime examples. There are exceptions tho, Kanu and Pires were pretty settled from the get go and others never fully settled (Id mention Sylvia, but i know people would disagree with me :) ).

Gilberto isnt the same type of player as veron, so i dont miss his silky skills etc. What i am missing is his stature and ability to link the play from midfield as he did for Brasil.

Oh and WWM - nyeh :)

From what I've seen hes a good player but does need imporvement but most players do.And besides hes only in his early twenties, I think he can definitely retain his place in Aresnal.Yeah, so hes good!

I just cannont believe that Phil Neville and Seba Veron were able to dominate a midfield that consisted of two world cup winners. But I know Vierra is class, and up to the united match i thought Gilberto was top knotch so I just put it down as an off day. Apart from the United match I thought he has been fairly good so far this season.
