This post ("get her some handcuffs Shay!") got me wondering...

I'm just curious... no other reason for asking... anyway... does anyone know what the legal status of handcuffs is in Ireland?

my own guess would be that it is illegal for anyone but the gardai to use them... can anyone clarify this...

    as I said... I'm just curious ;)

    Not at all.

Im pretty sure theres some sub laws about there usage to do with arrests etc. However, unless I am very mistaken there are no restrions on who can use them. There maybe restrictions on the ACTUAL gurda hand cuffs. The only real ban is on the hand and feet manicals which are banned by international law for use as well as sale.

(Altought most things become legal for recreational use if the parties concerned are both conseting)

I know that they are a lot cheaper if they have a "trick" catch so you can get yourself out of them more easily. Whether this is due to any legalities or not I don't know.

Because of the difference in cost if you see an activist handcuffed to a railing or something most of the time they have such a trick catch.

A "trick catch" sounds like a device a prozzie would use to snare a John. No?
