A friend of mine has a slight problem with flatulence and was I wondering if anyone knew of any natural remedies or dietary changes he could try to help him out-?

    Thanks in advance

Actually an iportnat and serious question

Is it the smell, or the force/sound that your friend has problems with, as they are often cuased by very different things..

    Oh, how kangaRUDE!

Not sure of any good remediesbut if anyone has some I will be very grateful to have some and give it to my boss!

I think it's important to know what foodstuffs are being eaten, can you find out? Flatulence can also be a tell-tale sign of a bowel problem or intestinal problems so if it is a major problem don't rule a doctor out.

/me mulls over the consequences of parping this over to the fitness forum...

    thanks for fast reply

I've aske dhim and it's both the noise and the smell

apparently he doesn't have 'bowel motions' very often (only once or twice a week) and it builds up so much that when he actually *does* go to the loo he says it leaves him feeling fairly empty and gassy inside - hence the flatulence

there's his problem right there then! once or twice a week is not enough, off to the doctor with him as this is not good/healthy and can cause hugh problems if left unattended.

Get a ginger root supplement. It'll clear "your friend" up.

i know people say it all the time - "my friend" when they really mean "me"... but not in this case.,,, it's not actually me.

anyway that aside thank you kindly for your responses.

where would I get this ginger supplement of which you speak, logic1?

Every chemist should have it, failing that a natural remedies store.

Heh, so why go Unreggie hmmmm??? 0_o

Anyway, if you are in Dublin there are a few health places
-On the north side just after you cross over the Ha'penny bridge (next to the F1 place I think)
-And south side there is a place somewhere but I have totally blanked on it... :(

Anyone know of any health food/remedies places?

It sounds like irritable bowel sydrome, or a yeast infection/ build up of yeast. Either that or worms (ick)

Try extra fibre and less processed sugar, soft / carbonated drinks, fat and meat in the diet. After all, what comes out is based on what goes in.

there are carbon biscuits if it turns out there isnt a medical problem. ( sounds like it is,)

Carbon bickies can be got in chemist
the carbon soaks up the methane produced. Doggie bickies have black carbon ones in a pack. But i's suggest a chemists or a health food store.

Ask him if he eats a lot of dairy products. Dairy products cause an almighty whiff, and a lot of wind. It's the whole thing about being unable to break down lactose. Once or twice a week is definitely something to worry about though and as the others have posted "get him to go and see a doc". It's not pleasant having a laytex covered digit stuck in your ass but it's worth it in the end.

Personally I dont see a problem Iv evacuated budling with mine (honestly 50 ppl and more) I say let er rip. However, I find diet is a hugh factor but also stress and a very active life style is a large part as well. Also when you eat as well as what and alcohol is a large part as well.
However, the lack of regularity is quite unusual you should been doing No.2's at least once a day if not more so i would recomend the doctor. Not in a way Doc my farts are bad but more I dont **** enuf.

    Men - 9 times a week is average. Women - 7.

Latex = rubber product. "Laytex" = proprietary gooey chemical rubber stuff used for levelling floors for carpets / tiles.

Sorry for dragging up an old thread... but this product while both amusing and useful might help our friend here...

    http://www.gasbgon.com/

... this Fox News article about it is worth a read too ;)

    9 times a week average???
    normally every 2 days myself:confused:
2-3 times a day if i've been drinking tho... does this mean binge drinking is actually good for you?

drinking does not make you ****e my friend. But for teh origional problem i would suggest that your firend gets more fibre into his diet, do get mroe frequent bowel movements. This would also reduce his flatulance (lol i love that word).

Then you would appear to be constipated (or you don't eat enough).

Alcohol is a poison, your body is trying to get rid of it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

    must be constipated then...

i always thought of constipation as needing to take a dump but not being able to squeez any poop out, which is defo not the case for me.
