Reception Problems

I had Sky installed in March, and had no problems up to about two months ago. I had a Grundig box and the installation guy replaced it with a Panasonic, but the problem didn't go away. Every so often the signal strength goes right down and the transport id and transport stream codes chnge and the lock indicator says not lock. It usauually starts with me losing about half the channels (always the same ones). Resetting the digibox doesn't always fix it - in fact sometimes I end uo with no channels at all. When this starts to happen it keeps going on and off for several hours then it might be ok for a few days. Tonight I checked the traspoder against the channels I was recieving and found I am only receiving channels from some -
    (D1S, D2S, D3S, D4S, D5S, D6S , D11S, D12S, 24, 43, 51 and 55) -
Sky claim no responsibilty (and wouldn't refund me when it happened during a PPV match) and I've been trying to get the guy who installed to come out for the last three weeks, but it seems like he's stalling as he said I wouldn't have to pay for a callout if changing the boxes didn't work.
Does anyone know what could be causing this so I know what to say to the installation guy/ Sky?

I've had similar problems myself actually, on a Grundig box too.

Haven’t a clue how to fix it, I've just been putting up with it for months now. Sky said there were no problems on their end and to get someone in to realign the dish. As far as I know that was done, but nothing was fixed.

Affected channels include: Kerrang and most other music stations past MTV BASE, E4, a few of the children’s channels, sky news on and off and probably and probably a good few more.

When the channel doesn’t load it tells me that no satellite signal is being received. Does this sound like the same thing to you mbflavin?

I'm getting the same message as you when a channel doesn't load.
Some one else has told me it could be the LNB - check the polarisation of the channels you are missing - if there all either verticlly or horizontally polarised then this could be the problem.

If you are losing half the channels then it sounds like you are losing a polarity, half the channels use horizontal and the others use vertical. Two possible causes are 1. faulty lnb or 2. voltage drop along the cable caused by a join or water ingress. This does not sound like storm damage so if you were one of my customers you would not be charged a call out unless the cable was at fault and it was part of an old system.
