Herion on the Dart

Was on the dart last night, last one to Howth about 11.40, was sitting in a carriage and came to Kilbarrack and two junkies got on, about the time it took to get from there to Howth Junction (30 secs) they had the tin foil out and the herion, and were gettin it on....

Now I dont mind what people do in private, but i mean on the Dart... junkies ....... nah no way, so i was staring at these 2 fu**ers and one of them said never worry about him, he'll not do anything... little did they know I am quite well atrined to rip their nuts and scrots off, but i thought well I'll get to Howth and do something about it...

Now we got into the Dart station there was 3 security men, and the 2 fellas were still on the Dart and they turned a blind eye to it, and walked on down the Dart........probably looking for some 18 year old with his feet on the seats .......

Now as I said I dont mind it in private and even I feel okay on the Dart... kinda cos I can handle myself, but what if it was some girl getting home from a night out, your mum coming back from shopping etc etc, bear in mind these people dont care what time it is, they'll shoot up at 2 in the afternoon, if they feel like it ....

whats yuor views, is there any point complaining to the Dart management... ro will it fall on deaf ears ?

I get on at Kilbarrack every morning. How can this seriously be shocking to you. No I mean really. Is it naïveté?? Have you never seen freaky things on the Dart before? I don't really know what to say. All I do know is that complaing would be a waste of time.

Saw it before on the Dart from Shankill into town, 3 guys and a girl, I think just after visiting their friend in the local youth prison. This was in the morning, though only just.

As I earwigged their conversation topic was the last post office raid one had been on.

Over here in Switzerland, its commonplace to see people smoking joints in the smoking carriages....although it should be said that in the Canton of Bern its somewhat legal (its complicated).

I have seen one guy "foil-smoking", and I'm not versed enough in all the latest drugs to be certain of what it was.

The solution? The police ended up creating a specific "task force" who patrol trains. Random checks, with known problem-routes being favoured. They will tell you to put out your joint....but if its anything else, you'll be hauled off at the next stop and be charged, tried, and sentenced.

Its not perfect, but I commute on one of these problem routes, and see police about 2-3 trips a week...regardless of what hours I travel at.

Ultimately, policing is the only solution. And by policing, I mean by police...not by private security.

If your complaints are being ignored, consider writing to the major papers and see if they are interested in running a story - you'd be amazed at the impact this can have when these guys start asking tough questions of the politians, police, and transport authorities.

I definitely agree with everything bonkey said about this topic and especially the comments above. A few letters in the right place might cause something to be done.

I personally dont think that any of the Irish police force would be bothered doing anything like policing the trains. It would create too much paperwork!!!!
A few years ago i was on the DART at about midday going to a school related thing and 2 junkies tanked up came over asked for a light, when the girl told her she didnt have one they beat her up and this other guy trying to help her. For starters there's not meant to be smoking on the train but to beat someone up for not having a lighter is a bit mad!!! This was 6years ago so i can only imagine that its got worse over the past few years!!!!!
But i think that it should be stopped and that no one should have to travel on the DART looking over their shoulder. Maybe letters would help but they can be destroyed leaving no trace of complaint!!!!!

You can simply send it via registered mail and they cannot ignore your complaint.


In fairness to the Dart they did make some what of an effort some years ago by installing those u.v syle blue flourescent lights in all of the toilets in the Dart stations.
But it seems that this has only encouraged them to do it on the Dart which is plain sick.

Listen i don't care how able you are, a prick from one needle which could be in their pockets etc and you can kiss your life goodbye , it is not worth it, I know you mean well but you must ask yourself how much you value your life before approaching a Junkie with aggression.

I think this is a major problem with Junkies, the simple fact is, the sight of a Junkies needle is enough to scare ten unarmed coppers away.

Write a letter to them via registered mail and explain the situation to them, i have no idea what kind of a response you will get but be sure to ask how they plan on tackling this problem.
