    The mind boggles... apparently
But for the inhabitants of a small Lancashire town, black pudding transcends such mundanities and becomes part of their sporting culture. For it is in the sleepy hamlet of Stubbins that the annual World Black Pudding Throwing Championship takes place. This sport – and I’m really stretching the definition of the word “sport” here – involves hurling a black pudding at a wall, atop which are perched plates laden down with, you’ve guessed it, more black puddings. Is there some supply problem is this area or something?

A spokesman for the site declared: “We are willing to finance the team as long as we will be the unique sponsor”. Unique? Oh, yeah – I think you can bet on that. About as unique as the notion of a sporting competition in which grown men (and eight-year-old boys) throw parts of their breakfast at a wall, for example.
