Run redhat-config-xfree86 and make sure it's got your right video card and monitor spec. Check your monitor manual for the vertical and horizontal sync ranges. If you're using an nVidia card I'd suggest you visit www.nvidia.com for their driver. Have a look through /var/log/XFree86.0.log to see what's going on too. It's possible your monitor is telling porkies over DDC.

You most likely have to defined a Modeline in your XF86Config file conducive with 1024x768 @ 100hz.

    Check this out: http://www.univ-tln.fr/~veron/LINUX/confx11.html

These days it's unusual to have to mess with modelines unless you're after something Special. In my XF86Config I have vertrefresh limited to 85Hz and I've defined one modeline for an odd mode - 1440 x 1080. The XFree86 4.x builtins give me all the 'normal' modes from 1280x1024 down in 85.0 or 85.1Hz without any help from me. I don't know if it has 1024x768 @ 100Hz, but I'm sure the man won't complain if he gets 85.

well the vertical and horizontal sync ranges are correct
    addding the modline didnt help
all i can get in any res is 60 hz

If you check your XFree86.log.0 you should see which Modelines are accepted and rejected.

Thus you should be able to tweak yours to whatever specifications you require.
