Liverpool have a big mountain to climb , they need to beat a decent Basle team on their home ground

What do people think of their chances ?

    Table
    Group B

    Pld Pts

    Valencia 5 13
    Basel 5 8
    Liverpool 5 7
    Spartak 5 0

I'm hopin' they'll get thru , the more english teams in next phase the better IMO , but on there eurpopean form I'm not too confident :(

It could be a mixed blessing as at least Liverpool know that a win is required and won't be as cagey as normal! Unless they go ahead that is!

I do not fancy your chances, I hear Basle played well but even if they lost ye still needed a win so it make fuc all difference.

    Should be a cracker.

yea dont fancy their chances,Basle only need a point which means they'll stick 10 men behind the ball, and Liverpool are hardly the best team at breaking down other teams.

dont fancy our chances either...they got a 2-2 draw at home to valencia! Isnt it funny though that we are talking about a team who celtic were expected to thrash in the qualifying round???

Another UEFA Cup triumph beckons! ;)

Nah, I think an all-or-nothing game suits 'Pool, it'll proberly be agony to watch but watch I will.

I'd fancy Liverpool to win this one - they're a better side than Basle, and I think the 'up against it' element will suit them. 3-0 Liverpool.

Nearly same situation as last year against Roma they did ok;)

but even if they lost ye still needed a win so it make fuc all difference.

if they had lost then the pool would have only needed a draw - anyway i reckon we have quite a good chance as long as meesrs. houllier and thompson go for it ..............

I'm fairly optimistic that the mighty reds will win. Remember Roma last year? The do or die situation will suit us and with Owen on top form I'd say we will win.

One thing to note from last years Roma game is that we are missing the boy Jari. Still I think we have enough class to do the business.

Heres to a win and to the next round of the champs league!

I expect the Pool to win and go through but they should not be making such hard work of a group like that. Fari enough Valencia are a top side but Basle and Spartak should have been disposed of with maximum points.

I've had this argument before and do not want to start it up again , but I really think Liverpools group was pretty tough.

Apart from Moscow , both Basle and Valencia have been class.

Valencia are one of my tournament favourites and Basle have showed some real spirit , especially disposing of Celtic the way they did , by winning 2-0 at home.

I'm not confident at all but am hoping the Pool throw everything at them and win well , then we can rebuild for the second group stage.

2 : 1 to the pool (fingers crossed)

i really only think the pool need a goal - cos honestly i can't c them letting one in the way their defence r playing at the moment......

If Basle lost yest then all Liverpool would have needed was a draw against them.

Thankfully Liverpool's defence has stopped leaking goals and hopefully the single goal will clinch it for the 'Pool.

Never mind predicting football matches, you obviously have enough trouble with counting.

Last time we played them we had something like 29 shots on goal. So it's not like we werent creating chances, and Owen wasnt scoring then either.
    2-0 Liverpool

Last time you played them was in Anfield. They held Valencia over there, and that is one point more then the pool got out of Valencia. Dont get me wrong I think Liverpool should go through but I also think alot of you are taking alot for granted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭LizardKing

I'm taking nothing for granted , I'll be a nervous wreck watchin the game , will need a fair few pints during it to calm the nerves ....

I have a bad feeling about the game , Im 100% not confident of us winning but I hope / pray that I'm wrong

And a lot of others are writing us off.
Fair play to them, they took points off Valencia, and we didnt. You're not going to beat everyone. Blackburn can beat Arsenal, but Arsenal can beat Newcastle, doesnt mean Blackburn can beat Newcastle. :)
