Should be a great finish to this years European Tour , Els is not playing so its between Padraig and Retief

    COME ON PAGRAIG

    .........................
    Harrington and Goosen paired together
    FROM IRELAND.COM

The concluding event of this year's European Tour season will have an added twist as the two main contenders for the Order of Merit title have been paired together for the opening round of the Volvo Masters.

Retief Goosen, Europe's reigning number one and current Order of Merit leader, will tee it up alongside Padraig Harrington at Valderrama at 12.35 p.m. (Irish time) tomorrow. The Dubliner and defending champion trails Goosen by just €23,119.

The monetary difference between the players is relatively small given that the top prize is €522,778 in the €3.14million event. The difference in cheques for first and second place is just under €200,000, illustrating the high margins between the top places.

If Harrington finishes in the top five then Goosen must equal or finish higher than his challenger. However, if the Dubliner finishes outside of the top five the South African doesn't necessarily have to match Harrington because the differential in prize money to places from there drops below the €23,119.

Should that happen Harrington is likely finish runner-up in the standings, as he did 12 months ago.

Graeme McDowell will be the first Irishman to tee-off at 8.58 a.m. (Irish time) in the selective 66-man field comprising the leading players on the money list plus several who qualify from the all-time career money list and past winners.

Ryder Cup hero Paul McGinley will start at 11.27 a.m. and Darren Clarke, returning after a month's break, is due to start at 12.27 p.m., two groups ahead of Harrington and Goosen in the third last pairing.

Not many golf fans out there obviously

    anyway

Harrington had a disastrous round picking up 2 penalty points on 1st hole and went on to score a +3 after 18

    Goosen is close on +2

Harrington will need to do better to get the money to go past Goosen

    Come on Padraig .... :(

Harrington's the biggest choker in the game. He's had 18 2nd places.....and countless 3rd's 4th's.........where he was fully in control of the tournament....until crumbling down the stretch.I've never ever seen a bigger bottle merchant in world sport. The guy is made of jelly.

I'm not disputuing that. What i am saying is...for a guy of his talent....and the fact that he's consistently up there every week....winnning 5 tournaments is a bit of a joke.
Players like Woods...and Faldo/Seve in their prime actually thrived on the pressure.Playing the last 9 holes a big tournament and being in with a chance of winning is what it's all about. These people are born winners......rise to the challenge and play their best golf under the pressure cooker situation.Harrington on the otherhand retreats into a shell....and almost dies due to a lack of oxygen whilst in contention. He will always be the nearly man of golf. This is a shame ..as he has the game to win majors.....but alas due the fact he is mentally weak....and has the backbone of a jellyfish...the 2nd's 3rd's 4ths etc is all he will continue to accumulate.
All he does is break out into big stupid cheesy cheshire cat grins....even when he's making bogeys/doubles.
imagine Woods smiling after making bogey/double/throwing away a tournament????
