There seems to be a new trend with popups ive noticed over the last few days. no longer are they an internet explorer windows but now they seem to be able to highjack the message service in windows nt/2k/xp to pimp their wares.

for anyone who hasent experienced it yet a dialogue box appears with some text and an ok button and nothing more.

is this a security hole in windows? and is there anyway to stop it?

New spamming method been used. If u stop the messenger service it wont happen. MS default install uses messenger for admin tasks such as printing notifications etc...

Speaking of popups, is it possible for HTML, Java, ActiveX Etc
to download, install and run a porn dialer without you knowing?

I was browsing a site for a crack and popups sponsor the site in question. anyway, this dialer somehow dissconnected me from oceanfree and began to dial up without me doing any thing like downloading or agreeing to install any software.

Id post a link to the site but cracks are not allowed.

I thought that would be impossible, i mean it was in add\remove programs ffs!

Yes, they can exploit one of the many security holes in Internet Explorer. Sounds like it's time for you to run Windows Update...
