    with special guests: MIXTWITCH

    Thursday 14 November 2002
    Temple Bar Music Centre

[spunge] - the leading lights of the burgeoning UK ska-punk scene – seem to have been on the road constantly since the summer of '98, only stopping for trips to the studio along the way. Famous for their blistering live shows, catchy ska-punk-pop and insightful lyrics, [spunge] flaunt the punk ethos, of staying true to your fans, and never selling out.

Formed in 1994, they became [spunge] in ’95, but it was mid-1997 before their debut EP “Kicking Pigeons” finally saw the light of day. It was well worth the wait though: the EP won them the attentions of Dave Juste (a booker with Birmingham’s legendary Xposure Rock Café), who offered to manage the band. His first act (possibly his finest) was to pile them into the Hiace and ship them off on a (seemingly unending) tour of the country. After honing their sound live, [spunge] were offered a deal with Moonska Records (which resulted in their debut LP “Pedigree Chump” in 1999). That year also saw them tour the album, and subsequently ink a deal with Sucka Punch Records for album # 2 – “Room For Abuse” (recorded in UB40’s DEP International Studios in Birmingham!). Their recently released compilation “The Story So Far” is out now on B-Unique Records.

Live, expect a healthy dose of their infectious back-catalogue, peppered with (skanked-up) cover versions of everything from Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” and The Proclaimers’ *ahem* classic “500 Miles”. Support comes from local favourites MIXTWITCH and ON/OFF.

[spunge]: a mix of punk and ska in exactly the right amounts that comes up smelling like an enthusiastic mosh pit.
