    * GERRY O'ROURKE *
"The Higher Ground Show is all about showcasing nu-jazz, black and electronic music via radio and over the fourteen months of the project the places we broadcast to, have responded by putting on events with us in their cities and we've embraced themselves and their cultures with the same enthusiasm..."

The monthly HIGHER GROUND SHOW is presented by Gerry O'Rourke and is
    broadcast on:

    • Solar Radio London (digital radio & web)
    • PowerFM Dublin
    • Studio B Belgrade
    • WHCR Harlem
    • Radio Friendly Cork
    • Radio Friendly Galway
    • Radio 3 Sarajevo
    • The Studio Queenstown NZ
    • Radio Campus Toulouse
    • NU107 Philippines
    • and Black Music Resource, freaked.co.uk.

Originally from Wexford but now based in London, Gerry returns to Ireland for this DEAF special.

Over the summer months Gerry visited Belgrade, Harlem, Sarajevo and Toulouse to present the show live from the respective stations' studios, take in a number of club appearances and get busy in the studio with some local talent with whom he'd already made contact. Gerry looks set to return to Sarajevo for next year's EXIT Festival to put together a Higher Ground Arena with special guests from the Higher Ground Show hosts worldwide. Other trips are also in the pipeline.

    *KEITH DOWNEY*
    KEITH DOWNEY
The passionate fella behind the profilic Psychonavigation label
("music for emotive minds..."), Keith was first drawn into ambient music by Jay Ahern's Sunday evening Ether Ambient Sound System show on Sunset (Timmy Hannigan aka Mr. Spring was on after him!).

Since then Keith's taken up his own show on Power, is Thursday and Friday night resident in the Mind room at Spirit, has done regular guest mixes for John Power at 2FM and has started up a very busy electronic music label that's since branched out with the 'Offshoot' label and has also begun working with South African label, African Dope and Panospria, a division of Psychonavigation based in Canada.

    Radio show:
    Mondays on Power, 5pm - 7pm.

    *THINKTOY*
Recently commissioned to do a mix for the Warp Records website, ThinkToy previously caught the ear of the like-minded counterparts at Ninja Tune, Coldcut, who chose him to do a guest mix for their popular long-running, Solid Steel radio show on BBC London Live.

Other supporters are International DJ Magazine (IDJ) who awarded him their Top Tape award.
They said: "undoubtedly the most professional, most vibrant and most creative entry we have ever had, and if this man isnt up there with his heroes Coldcut, Si Begg and Steinski by the end of the year, then promoters are bigger coke addled fools than we thought."

With a similar style to his cut-up-and-paste mixes, this highly-talented chap is currently working on his debut EP for Psychonavigation.

Meanwhile, you'll also find him Thursdays and Fridays with Keith Downey in Spirit.

    Radio show:
    Thinknology with ThinkToy
Mondays on Power, Noon - 3pm.

    * CANTO *
"electronica, hip-hop, funky house, detroit sounding techno, electro, jazz, funk and drum and bass, plus some cheese for good measure!"
A man not unfamiliar with the Top 30 chart, Canto likes to twist your perspective and will be playing a DJ set as well as producing visuals to match throughout Sunday.
This includes a meeting of minds with ThinkToy for a half-hour live mix.
Has previously worked on shows for Ron's Mobile Disco, plus the 'Psychokinesis' and 'Simulus' compilation launches.

    *GARRY*
A collector of records for over 30 years now, Garry keeps diggin' in the crates for past and future gems. A close ally of the Hull's Pork Records crew,
Garry returned to Dublin in the late nineties and two years ago he started sharing his tunes with public ears when he took up his Sunday morning slot on Power.
