    OK.

I can't understand how the hell RTE can come up with such a septic program considering how many talented musicians there are in this country.

They drag up tone deaf demi-celebrities to sing along with the following

    1. An irritating smiley bastárd
    2. A stoned looking weirdo

and its presented by the skeletal Linda Martin.

I feel ashamed to be Irish.

But but but one of the pianists is Ronan from 'talent on the telly' that Zig&Zag used to do on The Den!
I for one think it can be pretty funny...unintentionally of course...it's so fecking pathetic, and linda martin....all i'll say about her is has she always been a woman?

Then again, if it's so rubbish, why is Andy Ruane (the guy who invented the show and used to present the Fanta Roadshow) a millionaire from syndicating it to loads of other tv stations around the world?

Because as i said before, its a good solid format. The irish execution of it is aimed squarely at the 35-60 sort of market (early evening, rte1). Chances are, if your posting here the show isnt made for you.

If they made the show with 'hip' young irish ppl, got some decent writers for it and stuck it on net2, it would probably do just as well (and it would be a lot more entertaining :) )

The strange thing about this show is that as I was watching it the other night they had FINALLY managed to nab a couple of talented performers ie Niamh Kavanagh and the sister of Jerry Lee Lewis (whose name escapes me right now?). Anyway, despite the undeniable talented of these two most of the show was STILL devoted to the two insufferable team captains

Regarding the captains, one of them looked like Wolverine and sang in a sincere VicReeves club style (a paradox in itself). The other, a grinning idiot and doppelganger of Tommy Tiernan, chose to counterpoint Wolfman with an astounding singing style that had more ham in it than a 400lb pig.

What these two do for a living when they're not on this show escapes me? I'm guessing they probably make jingles for RTE shows because even in my wildest imagination I couldn't see anyone wanting to pay money to buy their records or see them perform.

But back to the show. Even when when the two talented guests were FINALLY allowed to sing their 'party-piece' the captains didn't take the gracious option of just shutting up for 5 minutes but instead chose to ruin the solo numbers by adding their own vocal 'talents' to the mix.

It might be a good format. But as RTE have shown with every other 'francise show' they've employed in the past ...... they really should just leave it to someone else.

    I agree with Pigman.

When Jerry Lee Lewis' sister was singing Great Balls of Fire ... her 'team captain' should have JUST F**KING LET HER instead of making his own pathetic addition to the vocals.

She was excellent. He dragged her down.

    I also agree with Dustaz.

Not every program on RTÉ should be made with the "yoof" market in mind you know... and as a program aimed at the 30+ market, I think it does a very good job - and with the band in the background doing "improv", and the lack of that Aonghus MacRianna fellah presenting it's a large improvement on what it used to be.

Which news do you watch, Shazbat? RTÉ One's 6.1 or news2?

Thats not quite true. RTE Commision it, Without RTEs funding it probably wouldnt be made. Im pretty sure it comes under the umbrella of the Independant Productions Unit.

Aonghus McAnallys smarter brother Conor was on Channel 4s Faking It last week, its funny how the talent in a family can sometimes miss only one member...
    Ray was fine actor.
