Well title just about says it all. What/Where is your local, why do you go there, what's the beer loik ??

    Place :- Castlebar
    Pub :- Mc Goldrick's

Reason :- decent, clean pub, has pool table, a couple of dart's boards, quite a bit of space and the beer is quite good

Prices :- A bit more expensive than the rest of the town but far cheaper than Dublin/Galway :D

    Mine keeps changing :(

    Place - Goatstown
    Pub - The Goat Grill
Reasons - 2 minute walk from my house, nice enough place. Fairly old crowd in there, people like Olivia Mitchell go there. Im not sure if thats a Pro or a Con though :)

    Place - Dundrum
    Pub - The Eagle
Reasons - Nearby to myself and most of my friends. Lots of young people. Also not sure if that is a pro or a con. Nothing else really, the place is a hole.

    Place - Stillorgan
    Pub - The Millhouse
Reasons - Er, um, dunno. I guess its sort of a half way between the Goat and the Eagle, nice(ish) place and usually a not too old crowd.

    Place: plaza hotel New york
    name: The Oak Bar
price: $9 for a bottle of coors light

But the atmosphere is very laid back and you don't have to pay for your beers untill you ask for the check* after seven or eight of them.

    mm
*note to self, check the price of beers before taking advantage of this service again

Closest pub to me that I like would be Gub Dandy's in Terenure but my favourite pub is Fibbers and has been for about two - three years now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,598 ✭✭✭Yavvy

I like to drink in Q bar and 4 dame lane oh and Dakota too
but thay are all a bit ponsy.

I still look back at my days of drinking in the "open air inn" and smile

my local is the yacht in Ringsend which is a great pub for a bit of old craic but there is no eye candy to speak of.
If anyone lives in kilmainham and doesnt drink in Murrays ( bow lane ) get your self doen there. Its great craic.

Also I think the 40 foot in Dun laoghaire is great for a bit of ornathology. oh oh and that pub in Blanch "Whest" is great for pulling...slappers as far as the eye can see.

    Comfortable, nice staff, good beer.

    Cheapest pints in wexford
    e.g €2.95 for a pint of bud :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭schrodinger

I don't really have a local where I live but when I do go for a drink anywhere around home it would be :
    Gub Dandys in Terenure
Pints: Really nice, not that expensive compared to everywhere else.

    Whereas my regular would be:
    Fibbers on Parnell St.
Pints: you need a strong liver, 3.20 before 12 and 3.70 after 12

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,120 ✭✭✭PH01

My locals are the pubs around Ballinteer -
'Taylor 3 Rock', 'Balinteer House' and the 'Coach House' - they're all just about OK but I wouldn't rave about them.
The 'Blue Light' is a good place in winter - a few nice pints beside the fire.

But these wouldn't be my favourites...

    Crowley Bar in Bandon
    Mulligan's in Poolbeg Street
Mahoney's Pub, Corballa, on the Sligo/Ballina road.
    And Neary's off Grafton St.

Crowes in Ballsbridge (great pub for going to when we finish work on a Friday)

When i am in town i usually go to HUBA or GUBU or else downstairs in The Oak.

Where i live my local is the Shanty (Mulhuddart) went there for the first time last Sunday cos they were selling €3 pints for the duration of the Worthington Cup....bit of a scary place i have to say.

The upstairs is now called Bacchus, the downstairs was renamed to Aquarium (what a dumb name for a club!) but no one ever calls it that, it's always gonna be fibbers.

And yes, the pints are nasty there. Haven't been there in _ages_

    Galway- Sally Long's.

Good Guinness that costs 3.25, Good atmosphere of friendliness, friendly staff, and they also have no problems jumpoing over the bar to swiftly get rid of trouble, which is very rare as a result (one guy is big fellow, who used to box)

And a Jukebox with AC/DC, Zeppelin, Metallica, and Slayer, and Rock/Metal night on Wednesdays, and regular live acts.

    For me, it's heaven...

    the bridge tavern/wicklow town
a lot of ex-pats drink there

    the grey horse/manchester

    £2.00 a pint and lock-ins most nights

    Place: Dundalk, County Louth
    Pub: The Spirit Store

Reason: The staff are absolutely lovely, the atmosphere is great, there's always a good mix of people there so you're never short of somebody to talk to, it's lovely and cosy and the seats are comfortable, there's a good selection of alcohol at reasonable prices and it's out of the centre of town so it's never flooded with idiots coming out of clubs late at night, etc. Also, the music is second to none! It's an excellent venue for gigs of all kinds, wherever your interest lies.

    Tigh Neachtains, Galway
    Stout 3.60
Pro: very good staff, fantastic location and nice pints
Cons: arty-farty and often very crowded

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

    This is one old thread.

In my new local, pints cost £1.90 :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

Not local, but right beside the 41c terminus...

    The Flowing Tide, Abbey Street.
Haven't a clue what I pay for a pint, cos its nearly always a round I'm buying. Can usually be found propping up the bar a couple of days running midweek, slagging the bar staff.

    :D

The Bayside Inn, quality place. Just at the main shopping area. There's also the Sheiling hotel which is just a short bus ride away. Howth is another place just a short bus ride away and it has loads.
