Wheelie bin prosecution.

    I read an article in the Irish times on Saturday that said the first sucessful prosecution for non payment of wheelie bin charges against a non payer has suceeded.

    This stems from a policy where the 'polluter pays' or in other words the people who produce the most waste have the pay the greater charges, which seems 'fair'.

    Personally I hate paying taxes, but paying ones to support recycling I can stomach, because I'd rather cough up a few cents then to know I was contributing to deforestation, the massive landfils and so on.

    I suppose I should post a poll on this.

    Yes the policy of making the polluter pay is right.

    No rubbish collection and recycling thereof should be provided and paid for by the state.

    Up in the North, My local Council have introduced 2 extra bins to recycle materials....

    black bin -> anything
    brown bin -> organic waste
    blue bin -> dry recyclables (plastic bottles, cans etc)

    I dont think people should pay as long as they are putting in the effort to recycle...

    I dont mind paying for it but the problem is the system that they have used. A paper ticket on the string tied to the bin !!!!

    Get real just how long do they think it will stay on the bin.
    It is only asking for trouble, every kid will be collecting them on thier way to school.

    I can understand pay as you go but why not a bar code on the bin scaned when it is emptied and then a bill sent out ?

    There are still no composting bin advailible
    the green paper/metal bin is only once an month,
    still no way of recycling plastics
    and there should be a set of glass/bottle bins in every housing estate.

    And if all this does goes through will they be lowering the car tax as it was orginally raised to pay for bin charges ?

    Indeed, or an annual bill and an annual sticker for your bin?

    One thing that worries me is that they won't take anything but what's in the bin. Well sometimes one might have a party and generate a lot of rubbish.... so then what do you do? Or will they take a plastic bin bag if it has a tag on it?
