What's the most subversive kids tv show out there?

I'd vote for 'Scooby Doo'. Not only does it have a talking dog and an emacated hippy who are suspiciously ALWAYS dying of 'the munchies' (hmmmm...) but it even has highschool Jock and his buffy-esque girlfriend who convienetly ALWAYS seem to go 'missing' together in each and every episode under the pretence of looking for ghosts! Yeah right!

In fact the last episode I watched they even had a character with a big handlebar moustache called 'Lord Shagington'. Hello???

But anyway, what kids shows do you, in hindsight, realise was not actually the wholesome slice of entertainment that it alleged to be?

The Magic Roundabout was pretty subversive, I mean
Dylan was dope fiend if ever thier was one...!

Theres a cartoon series from the 80s the name of which I've forgotten which had a seafareing theme and was full of smuty jokes and names like Seamen Stains
    (yeah, yeah I know...!).

Tellitubies is in fact a social commentary of an orwellian style nightmare world where televison has 100% penetration. there is no escaping it. the signals power a tv implanted in your chest and the ensuing pain causes you to be incapacitated while people stare at you in agony while the party spews out its propaganda.

no, wait, maybe its just a crap kiddies show.

It should be pointed out that the magic roundabout was written by a complete communist drug taking hippy :)

When the cow (name escapes me) gets a sugar cube, she smiles and floats off into the air. Tune in, Turn on, Drop out baby

Ermintrude was her name, (slightly embarrased I still remember that!). The Magic Roundabout was made for French telly and imported as was, then revoiced for UK consumption.

A few nostaligic links for sad thirtysomethings!

    Rainbow...themes of crossdressing and transvestitism.
Also seem to recall Rod Jane and Freddy appeared remarkably close and were on more than one occassion seen in bed together.
Also the original Bungle bear was replaced halfway through the series with an inferior emasculated version.

I've just remembered Channels 4 darkest moment which was made for children, anyone ever see Mini-Pops?, it featured girls in the 6-9 age range made up as pop personalities of the day which was the early eighties, it looked like kiddie porn, after the run ended it was'nt recomissioned!

The old Batman series has loads of things in it like that. I remember he was fighting these guys wearing convict outfits. Each con had a number across his chest. The gorgeous blonde had 36-28-36 :)

they were just talking about the magical roundabout a nite or two ago on the news, apparently they're makeing a film. It was mentioned that there were many references to drugs etc. in the original :) their quote was something about sweat and a roman orgey lol

I'm watching it now. Someone's been stealing Dougal's sugar (turns out Dougal's doing it in his sleep). He's been complaining that someone stole his "stash" and that normally he'd be able to sniff the thief out but he's "lost his sense of smell".

Second ep: Dougal wants to move to Sugaria but he can't get past customs control out of Pretty Wood and his sugar gets confiscated at the border.

I used have a Dougal pillowcase. Left it at home unfortunately and now it's gone. Still have my three Paddington pillowcases though (over 20 years old) (ultimate in "not subversive telly" is Paddington)
