Forum Hierarchy Change

Many of the forums from After Hours have been moved to Arts: Music, TV, Films, Theatre, Sci-Fi etc.

Because of the similarity with Arts, Art / Anim / Photo has been renamed to Graphic Design (perhaps later to the more generic Design) and moved to Arts.

Tribes is no more, all old posts moved to Games.

Rugby has gone the same way, remerged to Sports.

Webgames and RTS Games have been merged to Strategy.

I'm currently looking at merging some of the Regional boards.

    John.

Good idea about the Arts forum.
After Hours is looking a bit empty now though.
Maybe move Irish Pubs from the community forum to After Hours.
Also maybe move Star Wars and LoTR into Arts, you could put them with Sci-Fi, like the music/radio menu is set up.

    :(

Alas poor tribes forum, i knew you well :(

GG on the arts section tho. irish pubs to after hours makes sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,608 ✭✭✭✭sceptre

Television's under Arts though. Aren't they complete opposites?:p

Nice one Cloud - this makes a lot of sense (menu getting kind of wide for some I suspect)

Agree with Makaveli - thinking about a few forums to move into AfterHours might be a good idea.

I wonder should Food / Drink and Irish Pubs be merged? Eat / Drink / Be Merry?

Cloud, I moved Comics to Arts too, as the Public Community area is a bit crowded and it seemed to fit well too.

While you are working on stuff any chance you could make the drop downs a point or two bigger without making the top level links bigger (ie: Comics would be a bigger box/link but Arts would remain the same).

Regional reorganising completed as per map above. County names can be located in the descriptions of each area under the Regional section.

That's a good change, Cloud, but there's no board for art-art. Perhaps just add an 'Art' or 'Arts' forum to the Arts category.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 927 ✭✭✭Monkey

Graphic Design is not the right term to be using (I think) for a forum that includes non-commercial art. When I see the term "graphic design" that, to me, means commercial design like logos, brochures, websites and that sort of thing.

I suggest renaming the board "Art and Design".

Hey Cloud / DeV... would it not be more suitable for the North West forum to be called the Northern Counties forum or something. Its just that Cavan and Monaghan are technically in the North East (more of Cavan is in the East than the West).

I'm from the very East of Cavan bordering with Monaghan, and that is a very long way away from the West. Is there a name change in the lines?! :p

I really should check this board more frequently, one minute I rule only Waterford now its the whole south-east.

    Flamegrill? Who he! :D

I suspected this would happen esp as I wandered round the more, er...obscure counties of this isle and there was little life to report on...

I guess... It shouldn't cause too much of a confusion with Northern Ireland should it?

Could just add Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan to NI and call it Ulster (just on boards of course:))

Any chance of "Shannon" being renamed to "Midwest"? Seriously.

The tourist thingie used includes north Kerry and a few other places in "Shannon"

    LOL

Yes it was a bit of a shock to me too. Dunno bout the changes - I thought merging 2/3 counties might have been a better option i.e Dublin, then Kildare/Laois, Kilkenny/Waterford/Wexford etc - the regions seem a bit *too* big as they stand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,761 ✭✭✭✭Winters

Ya scared the poo outta me when i logged on tonight. I dont come for a week and everything gets moved :D

Great idea moving them though... Cut doen on the lengh of the DHTML bar too great job :)

The mergers have been warranted, and thankfully, I'm still there with the midlands east, :) (cheers sir!) but I do agree with that Cavan lad, PORNAPSTER, that Cavan and Monaghan folk would have a lot more in common with, say, Louth and Meath people, than Cavan folk have with Donegal and Louth folk with Wicklow.

Its been a gripe with me for a long time, the structure of how regions are promoted by Bord Failte.. that's for another time. But I think the organisation with the best regional structures are the Health Boards, IMHO.... The only anomaly would be the Eastern Area Health Board, with Wicklow and Kildare tagged on.

    My €0.02.... :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,924 ✭✭✭✭BuffyBot

That was just my take on it - the counties may have been too small and not attracting traffic, but the "larger" regions don't seem to have any reason to be. They seem to be a bit too impersonal for local discussion, too far-reaching.

    Just imho

You may want to consider some of these mergers & moves as i think they will streamline the boards and add a little more balance and reduce the scenario of dozens of boards but only a handful of readers.... i'm sure the exisiting mods can all co-mod the mergers so u can still have yer star :)

Health board layout looks like the best option - with a little fiddling of "northern area", "south-western area" and "east coast" (ie. Dublin and something else), then rename "southern" to "southwest"

The Cork city lads will want their own board yet - personally i think they have the traffic for it.

Some of the areas may look a little big, but in general they've a lot more in common than the current ones/names.

Might be worth checking with the Tipp lads to see if they're OK about having their county split in two boards-wise (makes most sense to me TBH - Nenagh doesn't belong with south-east & Clonmel certainly doesn't belong in the mid-west.

One thing about cork people is they know how to talk, but if you give them their own board, they might shut up fo, oh maybe 10 minutes, so it might be worth it!
