I think the scout shop is in capel st. aswell. (i'm from waterford and dont know the street names too well but its on the same street as those europia sex shops ;))

I recommend The Outdoor adventure store's cause they do Vango tents, Snugpak sleeping bags, Lowe Alpine and Spray Way clothes and Cascade Design Thermarests(the original ones :)) and Lowe Alpine bags.

The scout shop do vango bags which are ok but most of the stuff isn't top gear but does for a weekend camper.

If ya give me a list of what ya need i can recommend some gear.

    Good Luck

    I have a Vango Delta 200 tent.
Its a small 2 man tent but its handy to setup.
    It was about 50 quid.
I'd recommend getting the 250 or the 300.

Get a Snugpak sleeper 2+ for a nice cosy bag, i haven't tried joining mine with the gf's one yet tho. they we're about 40 again.
    The 2+ signafies its a 2 season which means its comfortable to 0*c. a 1 season is about 10*c +/- 5*c, a 3 season is -5*c and lower and a 4season does 15*c.
Snugpak are the most comfortable and soft and warm sleeping bags i've slept in.

Thermarest are the most comfortable compact air beds.
I'd recommend getting one if you wish to pursue your hobby.
Otherwise get a proper inflatable bed or a camp bed (warning don't use this for recreationally activites ;))

Trangia's are small self contained cookers which you open up and inside you have a burner, frying pan, 2 pots and a kettle.
These are between 60 and 80.
I'd recommend getting a gas cooker from a friend or buy one if you are just going camping and not hiking, bring pots and pans and make sure the gas is full.
Trangia's take methalated spirits which can be purchased at a pharmacy.

    Anymore help needed just ask.
    Good Luck

    No problems.

I'm in the scouting orginisation and spend some time camping, but when i turned 16 a couple of years ago we just used to goto sessions and no hiking, and we like our comfort. And no scouts isn't all that "dib dib dib" crud. Well irish scouts ain't.

PPC, I wonder if you're still a member on this.

I was just googling camping equipment and came across this thread.

    Just a few questions:

Firstly, where is the best (cheapest) place to get that Vango Delta tent?

That Snugsak sounds cool, is it €40 for two or one? It's probably going to be more like €80 now anyway seeing as this thread is from 6 years ago...

Is there anything else that's really important to bring? My boyfriend is a camping pro (if there is such a thing) so if I forget anything he'll notice!

    Thanks PPC.
