"Yes, honey...Just squeeze your rage up into a bitter little ball and release it at an appropriate time, like that day I hit the referee with the whiskey bottle."

A wise saying from Homer Simpson. Today I am not going to hit a referee but remind esat how they kicked me off no limits (Which is funny since I only signed up for their voice call service two weeks ago). Some people here like to take the high road. Me, I think I will take the low road. I am going to write to Esat and cancel everything with them (IOL gold and voice calls) and remind them of the rude letter (yes.....using an unlimited service too much) that they sent me.

Who's with me??????????? Lets send a letter to E-sh*te and Eirc*nts and remind them that at the end of the day the consumer will win, and to their misfortune!!!! Anyone with me, post a proposal of a bitter and grudge-bearing letter herre, whoo-hoo!!!!! :) or send them to omahaid@iol.ie (yes I see the irony)

could someone tell me if there is a different between LOL gold and eircom net subscription... personally the only problem I have with eircom net subscription was the price I ve never been booted off of it mid session and before I moved I could get reasonable speeds with it.

At my new address the phone line is complete rubbish Im lucky to see 30 k in my connection speed no matter what ISP i use

The only resolution for this problem is ISDN. I had the same problem, but since I switched to ISDN I could get the full speed (56k) with an analog modem. (Of course I use an ISDN adapter now for Internet access.)

about ISDN, though it may seem like a solution now - i've heard a lot of people giving out about testing their phone line for ADSL. Basically Eircom were saying they would have to pay to change the line back to PSTN, run the test, and if the line failed pay to switch it back to ISDN again.

    I'd find that a bit annoying :|

So, I'll just stick with the lame dial up I know and love

I am not a telcom expert, so excuse my ignorance: testing ADSL on a PSTN? How is that? I thought ISDN is a precondition for ASDL? Can you explain that?

... to say the least. It's actually exploitation - more then 250€ just for plugging a cable into another socket, twice ...

If you love it, how comes you are here? (Just kidding!)

    Yip.

    How is that?

ADSL runs on top of the PSTN.

I though ISDN is a precondition for ASDL?

Nope, lines have to be converted back to standard POTS before they can be upgraded to ADSL. There is a type of DSL that can run over ISDN lines, but it's not in production.

    Can you explain that?

    I just did! :)

.. Which also makes you wonder why Eircom is trying so hard to flog "Hi-Speed" (ie, ISDN) - considering it actually makes rollout of ADSL more awkward and unlikely.

    ...

    Scenario.

One has had it with Analog...so...

    1. You upgrade to isdn at home c €120+vat ISTR
    2. Adsl becomes available , your line will not pass the test
    3. You DOWNGRADE to POTS again for the test c.€99+vat
    4. You FAIL the test, you enjoy the benefit of €ircon cust services while you try to get them to fix your line so it CAN pass the test, you give up as many have done b4 u.
    5. You finally have to Upgrade to isdn at home again. c.120+vat

Your dalliance with ISDN may cost you €400 , non-refundable, and you still don't (and won't) have Broadband.

In the UK on the other hand you pay £30 at most to take the chance on converting to Broadband.

Where is the ODTR in all this I ask you?

    Where indeed!

Is that unique for Ireland? It would mean, one day, when ADSL becomes available in my area, I have to change back to an analog line? I can't believe that. What use has a "splitter" then? I thought, ADSL is realised in parallel to your existing phone line (ISDN or analog), because on both ends, ADSL will be splitted out (multiplexing?).

Jebus, here I am trying to bring a bit of begrudgery and bitterness into all of your lives and what do I get, ye lot bleating about rubbish. No more fannying about, this thread was designed for like minded people to wallow in misery about esat and eircom and plot ways of revenge.

yes! lets all cancel our phone lines so we'll have no internet OR phone calls ever! what a smart option to get revenge!

Yes.... upon further reflection I think you'll find I was driving at swopping all to UTV and then (yes and then) rubbing it in via a letter thanking esat for such a sh*te service or something along those lines.

Amount you spend staying online for 30days on eircoms 56k subscription service - €1.00
Amount a british user spends staying online for a month on BT's 56k subscription service - £35

That's never right, is it??????? €1 ?!?!? Where do I sign up?

^ heavy level of sarcasm, Eircon say they've super cheap access, how people always go for their deals because their so cheap, They always seem to turn things right around, why, they even emailed me stating how it costs €20 to have a subscription with BT, and €15 to have one with eircom (wheras on bt you dont pay anything else for the rest of the month on internet access), so I turned my sig around in an eircom sort of way, because when you think real hard, as long as your online onlijne for about a minute a day, it'll add up to €1 a month :p

now, stop pming meh about it..
