Live Premiership Football on Middle East TV

I am just back from my holidays in Tenerife. I watched a few English Premiership matches coming live from the Middle East Television with full English Commentary. The barman decided not to view the game from Norway, because of the lack of English commentary.

Are these channels FTA under hotbird or Astra, or pay per view with a Middle East decorder?

    Is a 1.2cm dish required?

    Any help would be welcomed.

    Thanks

Do you know the name of the channel-it would be a real help:) From the way you describe it I would guess that the channel is FTA.As for the satellite who knows.Being the mediterranean the Arabsat satellite would probably be within fairly close range of where you were, seeing as its fairly close to Arab North Africa.I cant remember the details but you would need a large dish for arabsat(assuming the channel of course is on arabsat-be very wise to make sure).A few arab channels including Lebanons LBC have recently joined skydigital-but i doubt its on LBC,seeing as sky would block FTA footie their charging for.
Best to check with a reputable tv shop which knows alot about satellite.Check the yellow pages for a decent one
    Good luck;)

I think the channel was Art Sport and is part of the very good ""ADD" package on Arabsat 26E.

Beam is tight to the ME/southern Europe.

ART Sport 1/2 was *i think* the very first sport channels to move to Irdeto 2 encryption.

ART would have its own audio channel but would also carry the original audio feed too.

I have very very rarely heard of pups paying for offical cards and would be very interested in getting the name of the pub etc from you as i would like to talk to this barman.
What interests me even more is that he appears to have a subscription to Canal+ Scandanavia and i am sure these are pirate cards.

    hope i have helped.

It is still close to North Africa (well, North-West Africa) - in fact it is even closer than the Spanish mainland.

    chernobyl,

I checked your 'add' link, I do recognise the sports channel logo as listed Arts Sport 2. The channel kept advertising their website as www.adduniverse.com, during the matches. I checked this site out, not much details on subscription or FTA etc.

Is it possible to pick up the 26E in Ireland with a larger dish?

Do you know Is the Arts Sport 2 subscription based or FTA?

    Cheers

    chernobyl,

There are a lot of UK Dealers listed on the www.adduniverse.com website selling their service, it maybe of interested.

They maybe able to assist. I suggust you tell them you are a Irish Arab (they will be on the next plane to set up system in Ireland, first to market and all that).

    Its worth a try.

    Good luck

    To chernobyl -

in your post "I have very very rarely heard of pups paying for offical cards and would be very interested in getting the name of the pub etc from you as i would like to talk to this barman.
What interests me even more is that he appears to have a subscription to Canal+ Scandanavia and i am sure these are pirate cards. "

You must be pretty missinformed mate, currently the main channels available in pubs in Ireland are as follows :

    C+ Blauw Irdeto/Seca Astra 19 E ( Dutch soundtrack)
    C+ Zap Conax 1 W ( English soundtrack)
    C+ Norway/Denmark Conax 1 west ( Danish soundtrack)
    Supersport 1/2/3 Irdeto 2 Horbird 13 E ( English soundtrack)

C+ Blauw will finish on Irdeto1 in November so many pubs will be faced with an upgrade to one of the above packages. Blauw will not really be an option after they change cards as the subscription cost would be similar to Supersport and they only have 1 game and no English commentary.

All packages are available on official subscriptions and pubs in general prefer to use official subscriptions.

Some of the bigger pubs would have a dual system of Supersport as they show 2 games live in English at 3pm on Saturdays . Others have a Zap system + Supersport ensuring they have 2 games in English .

Why are you so sure Canal+ Scandanavia would be a pirate card ?
