It just stops with a message telling me I can now turn my pc off, annoying.

(early in the morning so I don't have the proper solution)

It's something to do with Power Management.

ACPI (or previous incarnation) isn't enabled.

AFAIK it only gets installed/not installed when XP was originally set up so you'd have to enable it in the BIOS and then reinstall.

Or you could try going into Device Manager and check underSystem Devices - it may just be disabled.

More awake people, please correct the above.

Go into your bios setup and select "Power Management Setup" or something along those lines.
Now enable the option that says Power Management/APM
Boot into windows and in conrol panel go to power settings and enable Advanced power management (By means of tick box)
Your system will shut down completly now.

Also, as far as I know in Device manager, the computer shld be listed as an ACPI system, rather than a standard PC. Had the same prob myself a while ago, and changing this sorted it!
