I think the thing is why is it only half-full (or half empty)? It should either be full or empty.

Sometimes when I'm in a pub and I look at my pint I ask myself that very question, I think about it for a while and then I drink some of the pint and the problem sorts itself out coz then it's a bit less than a half, or possibly a good bit less or even empty.
