Any idea what modems ESAT is installing for ADSL? I think they are Ericsson ... but what model? There's a choice of USB or Ethernet i believe, or are they the same one?

    Cheers,

From what I have heard the thing they install onto the wall has an ethernet socket in it so the modem is built into it. I think you just connect that to a hub and your ready to go!!

What tthey do is that they install another socket connected from your phone line .. containing a filter for your ADSL service. So from there they connect a modem (ADSL modem) to your computer.

So, the make and model of the model .. is what i want to know.

No this is supposedly what they will be doing. I know some people who have been at a few esat ADSL seminars and this is what the were told. They are supposedely doing it this way to make their life easier when it comes to support issues as they don't want to have to deal with 100's of different ADSL modems!! ;)

ESAT installed an Ericsson HM220DP modem on my work premises.

It is dual Ethermet and USB.

The actual installation was not done by ESAT themselves but by contractors,

That's what I thought It would be. They made a deal with Ericsson for the provision of infrastructure and consumer products for their ADSL service ... I just wanted to know which model it was.

It a pity they didn't installed the Router version of it, the HM230DP. You could've installed and provide a whole LAN of your ADSL connection.

I just connected the Ethernet port up to my LAN and I was laughing :D . Certainly beats 64k ISDN anyway!
