Maybe people could take the time and answer 3 questions for UTV Internet . If regulations were relaxed, allowing a flat rate internet service, which of the following options do you think would suit your online needs best? etc etc

This link was posted up before, as far as I know. As a result, if you filled the survey in that time, you can't do it again.

I just clicked the link and i got an error message too so I think it's got to do with the fact that I filled it in last time around.

You have to dial in to utv to participate.

Actually piet, you were right. Dialed up using UTV Internet and completed the survey. Said I wanted off-peak and weekend access with no call set-up fee at €35 per month.

I wonder if this is the sign of something happening with UTV Internet down here anytime soon. Maybe they're going to gather up all the responses and then approach the ODTR and Eircom and show them that there is a demand for flat-rate here in the Republic and demand action from them on implementing a FRIACO system.

Well, we can live in hope, can't we?

Havent we not been doing that for ages now and to no avail?

eh... so does this mean that if i want to make a survey out i can only do so by using UTV as my dial up... that kinda annoying. There not really getting the right results now as not that many people will particapte in it :(

i think it's so they can email when the service becomes available and/or to notify you of thier progress. i mean, all your details would be stored on the dial-up account, and making things somewhat simpler by not having to fill in details

Just looked at "click silver" (catchy name) broadband deal, £27.50 per month with the option to buy or rent modem. Good God, how much longer will it take before I see a page like that on €ircons website.
That is an example of how to attract users to a [Real] high speed service with a sign up online button and an attractive price instead of "register your interest" and € 84.53 exc vat with € whatever other charges we dream up to inflict on you, subject to you being able to get it all of course :)

€ircon are not responsible for the small print or anything else of consequence for that matter.
Long live per minute dial up!

god, ridiculous. I thought UTV might have been a bit wiser than to limit this survey to only thier users.

If they offered something like clicksilver down here, id be over to them like a shot, but since i dont use thier dial-up, i guess they dont care.

I know its just a survey, but if its any reflection on thier thinking, its not good.

I'm curious about this "call setup fee: 20 cent " thing. Does this mean that you pay this everytime you dial-up? If that's the case option 3 seems to be the best idea, a bit expensive for dial-up but a lot less than I'm paying now.......

I don't like the idea of the call setup fee at all. The amount of hanging connections I used to get before I moved to ISDN was just embarassing.

Well its obviously not much of a survey if they're not interested in opinions of potential customers!

    Subject: UTV Internet Survey

    Hi there,

Can you tell me why the UTV survey on flat-rate Internet access is only
available to dialled-in UTV users? I can understand that you may want to
limit new customers to avoid capacity overruns, but surely an open survey
would be much more valuable to your sales and marketing team?

From a technical standpoint, it's not difficult to detect dialled in users
when the survey is being completed, and insert a flag for that in the
database, so you know who's a current customer and who isn't.

    Looking forward to your answer.

    Regards,
    Adam Beecher
I'll let you know if I hear anything back.

I didn't hear anything back by the way. Perhaps UTV are starting to go down the Chorus road...?

i asked what were there plans for unmetered access in the republic and this is the response i got

Similar to other telco providers in Ireland we are constantly developing and providing new services to meet a market demand. Currently, we are undertaking market research within our customer base to gauge demand and gather pricing information. If we subsequently overcome any regulatory and other issues this may result in a product being brought to market.

    Malcolm Thompson

    Operations Manager

try and figure out what that means.

Looks like they're at the drawing board with a product...

Realistically it could take in excess of a year to come to frutition.
